The in tank pumps have proven themselves to be very reliable.

Not over kill, by most standards. The injectors are more sensitive to debris and water than the pumps.

It's impossible to tell just how long your pumps will last. Every drop of fuel that has gone thru my truck has been dual filtered before it went in the tank. My in-tank pump quit right around 100K miles.
