What can you expect from TDR Issue 91?
In issue 91, we talk about the FCA five-year product plan that was released in the summer of 2014. That plan would have the next generation 1500 trucks being introduced in 2017 followed by the Fifth Generation Turbo Diesel HD trucks in 2018. In that article, I speculate (page 49) and Greg Whale speculates (page 71) that these introductions will be delayed to 2018/2019 respectively. We both cite articles from Automotive News as the basis for our speculation.
So what’s “late breaking” that would confirm the speculation? Automotive News’ Larry Vellequette writes “Sergio’s Big Bet.” Quoting from that article, “The Sterling Heights Assembly will be retooled into a body-on-frame to build the next generation of the Ram 1500 pickup. The start of production of the next generation 1500 is set to begin January 8, 2018, sources told Automotive News.”
So if the conventional plan of introducing HD trucks in the follow year holds truck, we’ll see the Fifth Generation Turbo Diesel in 2019.
For Issue 92 (May delivery), we’ve got some additional intriguement (yep, we made that word up) to share as the staff endeavors to bring you the “complete story.”
We hope you enjoy Issue 91.
