New TDR issue #35

Would anyone be interested in having a lifetime membership to the TDR? I know the NRA has such membership. If anyone is interested, lets let TDR know, and see if it would be possible, but only if it is O. K. financially and will contribute to the continued success for the TDR and its members.

Lets see 600 divided by 35 comes out to alittle over 17 years. I think my Cummmins will still be running then - maybe have a million miles on it by then:)

TDR Lifetime Membership

Cliff,

Do not know if admin will go for it. E-mailed Steve St. No reply yet. Do not know really how to get them to consider it. Guess we should see what kind of interest there is. By the way, where did you get the RED HEAD (valve cover) from, is that the Cummins part number 25-0880? How much did it cost? Thanks whistleman

No official response from me because I'm not in that position by far. But I doubt that a lifetime membership would be anything the TDR would want to offer. Let's say that D/C stops producing our trucks in 5 years - 15 years from now there probably wouldn't be enough of a market to continue to produce the mag. If they had lifetime members then they'd feel responsible to continue to produce it. I for one would like to think that the TDR will still be around 50 years from now but you never know. Something like the NRA dealing with a right like the right to bear arms is another thing entirely. JMHO

TDR Lifetime Membership

Steve,

Thanks for the reply. I know you are right. It would be disappointing not to have a Cummins in the Dodge. But it will probably go into some truck. I would have bought a Studebaker if they were still produced and had a Cummins. Think I might just pull the plug on this. Thanks Again, Whistleman

Redirect efforts

Personally, for the reasons stated above by Steve I would think the life membership would not be a worthwhile venture..... However..... rather than drop efforts to improve lets just redirect. There seems to be a huge following with the magazines and why not increase magazine creation/distribution. I'd love to see the target of a monthly magazine myself but as a realistic approach, it might be worthwhile to go to every two months. See what the response is and increase or drop back. Guest writers, newbie questions section, "Why I bought a Cummins", etc. could all be new fills. I for one wouldn't mind a small (figured by price per magazine) increase in dues if it means more TDR issues per year. The magazine has been a great source of information and marketing for both the trucks and membership.

Thoughts? Tell me if I'm way off base-- I can take it:{ :{

Brian,

It is hard to wait 3 months for another magazine. There is a lot of information out. Every two months would mean just 2 more a year. I would be willing to help out in any way I could. I would like to see a readers ride section with pics and an article and some more technical items, more mods. How about an article on rebuilding the Cummins, over a period of 6 months. A section on places to buy the cheapest parts from Cummins. It seems some parts are priced different in other parts of the U. S. Any more ideas would help. I would be interested in a magazine, in similar format to Hot Rod, only for diesel pickups. Trouble is I know nothing about publishing a magazine. My 2 cents worth is not worth 2 cents, but here it is. I do thoroughly enjoy my TDR. Whistleman :D

Whistleman,

I agree, while TDR may only last as long as Dodge makes, covers, and sponsors the RAM, I think it would be great to 'ride the wave' while it's here.

A monthly mag would be great, increase exposure, distribute excellent information to owners, provide more timely advertisement/sponsorship, etc.

I also really enjoy the vacation/travel experiences (like earthroamer) especially the "If I were to do this again" lessons. Nothing like learning from others experience. A section on "Travel Lessons Learned" would be great, or maybe "Vacations gone good/bad".

I've only been here for a while but I'm really surprised I haven't seen TDR seek guest writers or provide an un-solicited drop point for 'out-of-the-blue' subjects.

Then again, that's what this board is for, huh?

Actually, I've mentioned it a number of times and Robert puts it in the magazine regularly. He is ALWAYS looking for submissions for the magazine. You can email any submissions to rpatton@ix.netcom.com . He's said many times in the magazine that one of the problems with the website is that he gets almost no submissions from members for the magazine any more - they just post them here - and then asked that people submit things.

Great!

Excellent! I guess I've just been missing the trees for the forest. (or something like that)

{limbering up typing fingers} Now for a story... ...

Are there any guidelines (XXX number of words, para's, pages, etc?)? I'm not exactly the greatest technical writer so is ok to just speak the article to paper or does it need to be in 'newspaper' format? Will it get cleaned up by Robert/editor? Humor a plus, or detractor? Deadlines before next mag?

I'm hoping I'm asking all the right questions for those budding DC reporter/writers out there. I'll start another thread and get away from sidetracking this one anymore. [sorry whistleman :( ]
