Nice work Steve!! In a few weeks I'll post back on this thread, I plan on browsing and posting on the TDR from my PDA Phone while visiting China. It's really cool to think I can be in the shanghai airport and reading and posting on TDR wirelessly :)

This is great! I'm a full time RVer with no land line. I always use my cell phone at the trailer. This is way faster. Kev (Socalrattlinrams) can you do this with our group website?

Compliments to TDR - I'm temporarily on dial-up, and

at times it was slower than a diesel VW Rabbit with 5

heavyweights and 10 sacks of cement going up a 6% grade!

Speed is impressive - Thanks!

On your PDA btw if you didn't catch it above you don't have to change your style to the PDA version - it automatically detects when you are on a PDA browser and gives you that style.

lite version

Take a look at the post about 'dana clutch pack'. I posted on that thread and in my block at the bottom is the option for edit and reply to message. None of the others have this and I wondered if this is a glitch. Did I cause this.

The speed is nice. Now if you can get rid of all the header stuff. I understand that it is probably an ego thing for admin but it is useless to the user by the time he/she gets to the forums. After all, I think we know where we are without being downloaded every time that we are on TDR yada yada yada. It would certaianly free up some valuable screen space on the little machines.

Good catch James. You should have seen reply on every message and edit/delete only on your messages. There was a bug in the template that showed both of them to you only if you had the ability to edit/delete that message (which is why you saw it on your post). I hadn't seen that because I can edit/delete any message. I've fixed the template. On the header stuff I tried to reduce the size of the TDR logo but it looked awful. If someone has Adobe Illustrator and can do a vector based reduction where it would look decent I'd be happy to reduce the size of the logo. I'm pretty sure Robin & Robert will want the company logo to remain on the page in some way however. The banner ad will remain because the TDR has commitments to those advertisers.

Bill - I could put birthdays back on. The who's online list isn't shown either. This is really meant to be a bare bones display. The template when I got it didn't even show whether there were new posts in a forum or not, whether a thread was new or not (and didn't have the quick link), on the thread list it just showed the title - no last poster, and on threads it didn't even show a post date. I don't want to add too much stuff to it so that it doesn't load down PDA users. I may need to do two seperate templates at some point - one for PDA users, one for dial-ups. I will keep it in mind.

on the page in some way however.

I mean PLEASE, every time we open a page we need to be told in giant print that we are looking at TDR established in 93, number one yada yada yada. We know how good it is. You're preaching to the choir. This belongs on the home page or with the initial page that a person searching for info would read. The line certainly tells all for the novice but ON EVERY PAGE for the daily user. I don't think so.

If your on the PDA/dial-up skin all you'll see is the logo - no TDR established . . . . The reason to have it on every page is because many people will find their way here via search engines and you have no control over which page they come to the site on. On a regular screen our header is much smaller than most sites I see - we do keep that in mind. Also having a consistent menu system across the entire site makes it easier for users to navigate as well as for me when I make changes to the site.

Thankyou so much for doing this! I can now enjoy the site again. There is no high speed available in my area and way too many sites are non functional. Thanks again!

Steve,

Have you tested this on non-PDA phones? I have a Sprint/Sanyo RL-7300 that seems to try to display the entire (normal) web site. I also don't seem to be able to login. Any suggestions other than get rid of the phone?

Eventer - Unforetunately there isn't much standardization on WAP browsers as to what they report themselves as so I have to manually enter the names of browsers that should be detected as PDA browsers. I thought I pretty much had them all covered but yours must be an odd one. On your phone go to https://www.turbodieselregister.com/browser.php and report back to me what it tells you. You should get something along the lines of:

User agent=Xiino/3. 4. 1E [en] (v. 5. 4. 7;153x130; x16/d)

OS=

Once I know that I can enter your browser into my detection program and you should be all set.
