I think your both right! The ONLY reason I have to pay the $35 is because this is where you all hang out. Seems like that's a little much to pay for that though ;) :D

On the other hand the $35 keeps all the rifraf out. On one automotive site I used to like, now is all chinese businesses posting adds for dental floss and underware. Totally ruined because nobody had the incentive to maintain it and anyone in the world can post for free.

Ah, it must be that coin with two sides thing :)

I know the sticker is free... send postage... ..... BUT!!!

Its just a mindset thing for me. Why should I go to the time and effort of sending in postage, in order to provide free advertising to the TDR? I had a company and was self employed, and if someone wanted my sticker, I looked at this as free advertising and was happy to give them anything with my name on it. Providing free advertising for an organization shouldnt require any effort on the part of the end user. I figure that if the TDR doesnt want the free advertising, then why should I go to the effort for them? If they can send me a renewal notice, why cant they send a sticker with it?

Amazing

You guys can afford a $30,000 truck and have a problem with fifty cents worth of postage for a sticker?

Oh, it's the principle of the thing you say? That deserves two of these

Sam:p

Exactly JConley! Just got my renewal notice yesterday as a matter of fact.

CrewCab, things cost money? Really? Wow I didn't think about that. :D

It is more the point of the whole thing and how TDR compairs to other automotive special interest organizations of similar membership size.

Remember, TDR also sells a fair amount of advertizing space to vendors as well, it is not just membership dues that pays for this stuff. So don't plead poverty to me on this one.

Now that Rob is back up and running, we once again have a place to get our question answered and help other CTD owners, for free.

All of this because I wanted to know where to get a sticker.....

BTW, I robbed my piggy bank and have ordered the sticker.....

Haney,

I'm glad to see that you have your decal on the way. You said that your a new member, so welcome to the ZOO!! You will find out, if you haven't already seen it. That one of the best parts about this site, is to ask something, or make a statement and then just set back and watch the Fireworks!! :p :p Buy the way, WHO does make the best TC?:p Got to go, have fun.

Chris

If ya,all dont think its a good deal dont renew. The information here has saved me lots of money which makes the site at least free or better. The friends made through the TDR are without value and wouldnt have happened without TDR. Its amazing how a sticker can weigh in so heavily against so many other great benefits. Some people crab about the dangdest things.

Thanks Evan.

I think that there is a growing group of us 'old' timers that have had it and WILL not be renewing our membership. Don't believe me? Go read this thread: http://dieselram.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=10&t=000004

I can't tell you how many good people were lost when TDR took over this site. $35 to post messages, and then be sensored or banned when we disagreed with 'their' paying vendors? As Howard Stern would say, "Oh Vey!"

CDW was a great site! Rob always had great reviews of products (course he got to keep them for his 3500, b@stard :D ) and the helpful info flowed freely on the forum. The only guidline was BE NICE! Now he is back at http://www.dieselram.com and the clan is starting to form again. And believe me, these are some of the brightest bulbs in the box when it comes to a CTD.

Oh, and CrewCab, the site is FREE. Bandwidth does cost money,. It is called sponsors, ie vendors. Wait, hmm, TDR has those too!!! So I'm paying $35/yr for 4 black and white rags also filled with ads? Hmmm... . But Polly is so interesting. NOT!

Well folks, I personally have decided not to continue padding Mr. Pattons retirement fund and say bu-bye. No big deal right? Maybe. OTOH you may just be losing the core knowledge that made this site so great...

PS, Deezul1, it is not the cost of the sticker, it is the point we're trying to make here. TDR can spend . 50 cents on a 'please renew postcard' but can't spend a whole buck on an envelope and decal that we all want, and would do nothing but increase their membership headcount! How stupid is that? And we've asked for this at least 4 or 5 times since CDW was bought out.

I know it is trivial, but it just finally was the straw that broke my back.

Edit : Edited a single personal attack, it will not be tolerated.

I dont think anyone would argue on how beneficial this site is. In addition, I have met and made some good friends due to the TDR. I would like to think that the entire membership feels this way.

Yes, arguing, whining and bickering about a sticker is petty. Here is why I push the sticker issue and where I am coming from. I think others feel the same way.

What I see lacking on the road is a common symbol of this friendship and camaraderie that we share. It frustrates me that the TDR would not do everything in its power to promote this by supplying something so simple. Can you tell me that you have never seen a Cummins powered Ram on the road and wondered if they belong to the TDR?? I have. Not only do we have to go to the trouble requesting a sticker, but we also have to ask permission to make our own. Seems like a double edged sword to me, and it is a hinderance to meeting someone the road that I might have something in common with. I can assure you that 90% of the membership (including me) will never go to the trouble of sending in an envelope to get one of these stickers. I am willing to bet that if one was supplied, we would be seeing A LOT more Rams driving around with membership stickers. This sticker is nothing more than an open invitation to talk trucks, meet someone that shares a common interest, and (god forbid) learn something. If someone doesnt want to advertise that they are part of this organization, then that is there choice. But at least provide the members of this site the option to make this choice by giving them a sticker. The Best thing that can happen by giving out the stickers is more people will want to be part of this organization, and therefore increase the revenue stream. I really dont see a worst case since all the cost for giving these things out will be written off as a business expense regardless if one new member signs up or not.

That's enough for me... I need to get to bed so I can meet some TDR members for breakfast.

Once again, thanks JConley for an excellent post!

This sticker issue is so stupid on the surface, yet so significant when you think about it. Do you all realize how many people we could have added to TDR by having an easy www site name on the back of your rig? Think of the hours per week you sit reading other peoples' crap on the back of their cars...

Geez, how many Rams do you see every day going and coming home from work and look at the door emblem or the size of the exhaust pipe and know instantly that it is a CTD! And they *could* be TDR members. More than likely they have no clue about TDR.

But Mr. Patton doesn't want to spend that kind of big bucks. Know what, we will at http://www.dieselram.com *The Original CTD Site is BACK*

Bu-Bye TDR... RIP

I agree with OILBRNR again...

All of us "old timers" from 1998 when the CDW was formed are sick of the TDR and its politics. The CDW was a free site, with emphasis on FREE. That is, you can speak your mind and not has the gestapo coming after you. I like how things are run over there, and that's why I am not renewing my TDR subscription next time 'round.

The sitcker thing is just the tip of the iceberg...

So the TDR's got say, 17,000 members, not all of which are on this website. Soooooo... . Lets take that 17,000, and multiply it by $35... That comes to $595,000 gross per year. Add in what advertisers pay to have a blurb about them in the mag, and it beings to get close to $600,000.

So does this mean that it costs $600,000 per year to send out a QUARTERLY magazine and keep a website going? Surely it cannot be that much...

So here's my question to the TDR staff...

Where is all the money going? How about soem detailed breakdowns of where it is being distributed. Some of us would like to know... ... ... .....

Amen Evan!

The other specialty auto clubs I belong to are very forthcoming in how the money is spent. Ask, and they will tell. I doubt that Mr. Patton will say anything! Buddy, we're gone, long gone! Bu-Bye!

Sorry folks, we are toast. Say bu-bye to the most knowledgeable core of this site. We will be leaving to http://www.dieselram.com *The Original CTD Site is BACK*

Well even if they told you, whose to say you would believe them? Secondly they don't have to disclose squat, since they provide a "service" and its their private enterprise.

Those of you saying you won't renew... . quit whining about it and talking about it and leave already? Actions speak louder then words, do they not? I see it as kinda being hypocritical though... ... "I won't renew, but by gosh I am still gonna post"... ... ... ... ... ... . Thanks for the chuckle this morning.

Anyone who is not happy... ... why not ask for a refund?

OILBRNR,

God forbid someone makes money, we are only in the USA. It is unrealistic to expect someone to do something for free. How dare you condemn someone for making money by using their skills and knowledge in a legitimate business. It is after all the AMERICAN way or do you have a problem with that too comrade ? Do you have any idea how many years of formal schooling and time the people put into this site and magazine to make it work ? SO GET OVER IT. You DON'T have a clue what this site is about, so PLEASE go to the other site, I for one won't miss you, I deal with enough petty a**holes at work. So have a nice life, by the way, I will spend the 50 cents to get my TDR sticker.

Kyle
