A big thank you to all of the TDR members. Because of problem solving in the past on previous posts, I was able to completely diagnose my trucks problem within one evening, I got it repaired today at my local dealership and the Deisel Mech. was very impressed, he said "Boy, I would not have figured this one out near as fast as you and TDR did, good job".

My problem was very low power. Solution-- Pressure relief valve blown out, low rail pressure, therefore ; ECM retarding timing to compansate for unusually low fuel levels. Truck is better than new now, I am wondering how long the valve was going bad, maybe for months and it just recently got so bad I really noticed it. Power seems higher than I ever remember. i think it would be a good idea for anyone who has been running a pressure box for quite some time like I was to have a pressure check performed to find out if your rail pressure meets ECM's called for pressure, would be worth the check. But if your truck is out of warranty the part is $406.

lesson learned: I will not run my pressure box on high all the time anymore, will only turn it up when pulling, or racing etc. I now run an adjustable Ramifier, for the last 1 1/2 years (35,000k) I have run my edge box on the 70 (highest setting)

Was there any other symptoms? Cause sometime my truck will lope/surge and never find the target pressure, too high, too low, too high and so on...

I always thought It might have to do with the relief valve,

Good to hear your back to full power!!

Dittos

I just want to hijack this thread long enough to say Dittos. The help/advice I got from you guys on my "new" 97 fuel shutdown selenoid, doing the KDP tab, the ESN (still a Dodge and Cummins mystery),and the link to fixing the fuel sending unit at dodgeram.org was great. Plus, searching the links.

Plus the commeraderie and generous portions of carp liberally dispensed at appropriate times. :-laf

I've got similar symptoms in my truck with decreased power that my dealer can't diagnose. My truck has been acting up for a few months and recently threw the 0251 code. The dealer replaced the fuel control actuator per a TSB to no avail. My truck is back at the dealer right now and when I questioned if they hooked up a diagnostic machine and drove it to evaluate operating parameters he told me it was standard to do such. Anyhow my other symptom is smoke, (grey) at just off idle acceleration and after a long highway stint with the cruise on when I get off at an exit and accelerate it pumps out a black plume of smoke that would make me proud if it had any power. I suppose if I didn't know how the truck performed when it was running right I might think everything was OK too. I think my problem is that a symptom of lowered power is so subjective to somebody that doesn't own a diesel that they don't take it serious. Sorry for the rant but this is getting old quick. :(

sporttruck,

Did your symptoms include low EGTs, 20 psi boost limit and feeling like there was only have throttle available? I have a 2005 swapped into my truck that has these symptoms.

Thanks.

Rusty

sporttruck,

I just realized you posted to my earlier question. Thanks for the insight. Any other tips you might have to diagnose this?
