How long does a TDR membership last? It hasn't even been five months since I joined, and today I received a postcard stating that my membership is finished after the next issue.

I recieved one of those cards last issue. I just signed up so I payed no attention to it. I just recieved another card... must be something screwed up in thier system.

from what I got out of what it said on the front of my new TDR mag it was for the people that have a registartaion number starting with a certion number cant remeber which one right now but ti said on the front and your regisration number is also on the front. So even though it said your need to sign up again double check your number and see.

Regarding the scheduling of renewal cards, some folks think they're sent to early. Some think they're sent too late. It depends on when in the quarter you set up your new subscription or renewed (as to whether it feels too early or too late).



Each subscription includes 4 issues of the magazine as well as 12 consecutive months access to the website. As noted above, you're 4th issue of the magazine won't arrive until February, 2004, and you'll stay active on the website well after that date. We allow a minimum of 12 months access, not less.

I received issue #44 3 days ago, btw. They are in transit as we speak. The first of them started to arrive a couple of weeks ago and it takes almost a full month before the last ones are delivered.

Clarification

Let me try to help. The renewal cards are intended as simple reminders. Some complain that they come too often and too early. Others (belive it or not) do complain that they do not come early enough. The best strategy is to keep up with the first two digits of your member number. Each renewal purchases four issues of the TDR magazine and a minimum of 12 consecutive months' access to the TDR website. For example:





Gauthier, your member number begins with 42 (and you last renewed in January, 2004).



You should have received Issue 42 (sometime in January, 2004). You should have received Issue 43 in February, 2004.

You should have received Issue 44 in May, 2004.

And you will receive Issue 45 in August.

Your online access will remain current until at least February, 2005.

You will want to renew in the October/November timeframe. It seems odd (or like less than a year) because you received Issuse 42 at the end of January, then almost immediately received Issue 43. Email me with questions/concerns.





CLAYTON, it looks like we may have made an error when we set up your account. Your member number also starts with 42, but your first issue wasn't mailed until April, 2004. Did you by any chance request your subscription begin with Issue 42? Please email me, and I will have any errors corrected.

I know I am kinda new to this site. Also recently bought my first CTD.



Kinda bugs me a little that I have to PAY for access to the website. I can completely understand paying for the magazine.



I belong to 3 other boards and NONE of them require payment to join in posting and searching.



Just my 2 cents worth.

Bouncy - you are paying for a subscription to the magazine and as a benefit you are getting access to the website. The magazine subscription price has been $35 since it's inception. The website was added in 99. The magazine supports this site and without that it wouldn't exist. The revenue from banner advertising doesn't even put a dent in the cost of operating the site. The members only features of the site are an additional incentive for people to subscribe to the magazine. By being limited to members only it also helps to limits the amount of "trolling", etc on the site. There are a number of free options out there if that's what people are looking for.

I just renewed!



As long as they are open about when mine expires, and when it needs to be renewed, I'm ok with any notices. I was a bit shocked, because it seemed like yesterday I re-signed up.



What I hate are mags that send renewal notices without telling you when it expires. Sign up for 3 years, two months later you get a renewal notice. Crap you think, I like reading that, it's going to expire, I better renew... and you've now got 6 years.

I guess it is more about different sites and different mentallities. I am more of a wrenchhead. I work on my trucks and don't spend a lot of time in magazines.



I found this site cause it is the biggest and best site for info about the Cummins engines. However I only monitored it for about a year. Basically I didn't sign up and pay until I got the truck.



I love all the info but without becoming a member, I couldn't search the site. Therefore researching took 10 times longer. The researching I did is what LED to the purchase of my CTD.



If I hadn't researched this site manually... I probably would be driving a Duramax right now.



As for cost of running a website. I know about those costs. I am friends with the owner of a jeep site and he has talked about costs as well. He just started using banner ads in the past month. Other than that, people donate to the site cause the like it and want it to survive.



As a member, you sign up and get full access to the jeep site but limited storage for pics. As a "paying" member to the jeep site, I sent them a check to help out on server upgrades.



I know this is a logn post that seems to ramble. I was just trying to say... I don't really read the mag and love the site... Didn't see why I had to pay for the mag to get the site. Just wanted the site all along and be able to post and search for tech info. And of course... Make friends.

Boy did I start something here...



Ya missed the point. I don't read the magazine. I enjoy searching and surfing. I just didn't understand BUYING a magazine subscription to get a website ID so I could post and search.



To me they are separate things. I don't know the history of this site... so I didn't know the mag supports the site and didn't know the mag was first.



I like the lifetime membership thing.
