Site outtage today

Seems like the TDR has been getting slower lately. When I look at the number of users logged in, I'm not surprised. Lot's (over 1000 right now) of free-loaders hogging up bandwidth. What about a separate server for non-members so that us fee paying folks can get some better response? It would be an incentive for more non-members to sign up.

it took me 5 minutes to post to this thread.

It may be the heat loading the bandwith up or spot power outages causing it.

I't hasn't been this slow for me in a while.

I like the idea. But, don't know how feasable it would be to do this?

It's been slow for me, home and work ever since the server crash back a month or so...

Never posted about it, thought it was just me...

I have noticed the last 2 weeks have been really bad. Very few e-mails for posts also...

it's really slow !!!!!!!... ... a few times i got tired of waiting while i was trying to respond to a few threads and just closed all of it.

Slow

It's been slow here for a couple of weeks, on cable. even slower at peak time . to many non members.

Why buy the cow when you can get the milk free.

Steve posted a reply to this thread early this morning, but the server is running so slow his post hasn't made it to the thread yet...

:-laf :-laf :-laf

(JOKE - but it's so slow here, my DSP looks like a bad dialup when I'm on this board - other boards are running normally... )

just in the last 2 hours has it gotten slow for me. but im not complaining steve does a good job keeping the site up and well im sure it will be back to normal very soon.

p. s. but when i say slow, i have cable internet now and even with the site being slow it still way faster than my old dial up :-laf

It is hit & miss for me. Some days OK, some days terrible.

Honestly it hasn't been 'fast' since the major site changeover a couple years ago..... I've learned to live with it.

My folks in Washington state have dial up and my dad can't even get on here sometimes.

A friend in Omaha, Ne says it's dreadfully slow, too.

Maybe there's a common hub issue somewhere.

Signed,

Too ignorant about the net to know for sure

Slllllllllloooooooooooowwwwwwwwww.... ... .

I have less trouble logging onto my free forums which have as many or more members or traffic on them, and I pay for this aggrevation. Since the last time this site went down,it has never been the same... ... ... Andy

This is in the top spot for 'Funniest TDR post of 2006'. :-laf

I figured it was my dialup. Should have know otherwise when I can run through all 4 of my other boards in another window in the same time it takes to get through this one.

I was on the road today on my bike (rode 600 miles to New York for a rally) and when I arrived here I received 3 alerts from the server (between 8:55 and 9:10 pm eastern) that the web server was down. I logged in to the server to find that it wasn't actually down but was running extremely slowly. There were several apache processes that were locked up loading up the server. I rebooted the server at that point and it should be better now.

I have also been working on slow performance from the new server for the last couple weeks. There seems to be a bug in one of the newer upgraded versions of either apache, php, freebsd, or the libraries. I am working on it with our freebsd guru as best I can. I hope to have it back fully functional soon.

Later this year we are also going to be installing additional servers behind a load balancer to deal with the loads we'll be placing on the site this winter.
