I am almost certain the previous issue of TDR said that the Quickcheck engine analysis software for the Palm Pilot would be reviewed in the next issue of TDR.

I received my latest issue of TDR on Nov. 6 and have looked through it 3 times, but cannot find such a product review. Can someone help me find it?

I was really wanting to purchase the Quickcheck, but thought I would wait until I had the benefit of reading the review. Maybe those readers who already have the Quickcheck could go ahead and give it a review right here in the Forum.

Thanks

I've got it.....

Ninearrow,

I bought the quickcheck when it first came out a few months ago. In my opinion, it is good, but it gives a lot of redundant information that the gauges already provide. Some of the things that I do like about it are:

It displays engine hours, diagnostic fault codes (read only), engine load %, engine throttle %, intake manifold temperature, fuel flow(gph), output torque (2000+ models only).

I also like the fact that you can download the engine data from the Palm Pilot to your computer if you want

Other read-outs include:

rpm, boost psi, coolant temp, oil pressure, vehicle speed, battery voltage.

I got one recently and have pretty much the same thought about it as Steve. I bought it primarily to pull the fault codes out as mine won't do it through the odometer display and I've had an intermittent fault which turned out to the the MAP sensor voltage too low. I replaced the MAP sensor today, so we'll see. So, for the purpose I bought it for, it is great.

hey e-mail me your price for the quick check and palm.

Check Palm's Website...

I bought mine off of Palm's website: www.palm.com

The reason why it was that cheap was because it was a "factory refurbished" model. Looks brand new to me, and has worked flawlessly!:D

They may not have any left for sale. I bought mine several months ago.

yogibear, I'm using a Palm VII, works without an adapter. I bought mine off Ebay - refurbished, no problems.

CConway, you have to unplug the EZ as it utilizes the same data port the Quickcheck uses.

One other thing, the Quickcheck comes with two additional wiring harnesses. You use both of them with pre-2000 model trucks and one with 2000+ year trucks. The instructions have you plug the finished wire ends into the connector to finish off one of the wire harnesses. I found the directions to be incorrect for my application. Instead of plugging the white wire into A terminal, it only worked in C. the black wire was plugged into B as per the directions and the bare wire went into A instead of C. It then worked as advertised.

Check with Brett or Taylor at Edge Products, I think they can fix you up with an adaptor where you can run the Quick Check with their products.

Seems like you would want one oof these for real time analysis of computer controlled 'what have you's' on the truck rather than RPM's and such. I can think of a couple of instances where a sensor went bad that I would never guessed based on the behaior of the truck... example, intermitt T/C lock up caused by a faulty trans temp sender, it said the trans was getting colder as the rest of the track warmed up. If this is the kind of stuff you can look at, then the devise is worth every penny, especially for those that are doing there own thing with service. Is it basically an OBD II type scanner?
