I'll ask just incase, do we have a shop directory on forums?
If not, would it be possible to get a regional shop directory going with verified TDR reviews?
There's a lot of great information on these forums with many questions that get answered. Though often times the million dollar questions are "Who and where should I take it too?" for x work if you are unable to do it yourself.
I think there is a good need for it, I myself would be more inclined to trust a directory listed and managed by TDR than word of mouth, facebook, yelp, google, etc. Not everyone lives in a city or town where good work can be found. Plenty of people are willing to travel for a one and done; right the first time job.
If you don't mind me stepping on a soap box. I'm currently getting burned by the shop I went too; to have my transmission looked over (if you're following my destitute NV5600 thread) and to install head studs and burn on traction bars while it was there. Long story short my truck was there for 2 weeks and 2 days. They didn't tell me anything new about the transmission I didn't know already, bars weren't welded on straight, their mounting hardware was loose/unsecure and i'm drinking coolant. The cherry on top is that they won't be able to look at it till September 6th. This is the first shop to ever touch my truck and i'm living through my worst nightmare. I shouldn't have to be decked out in powder coat and rock lights to have some level of attention to detail when working on my truck. I'm frustrated that I do better work with less in my own garage. If my head needs a job I'm more inclined to take credit for the cost of the repairs and take it elsewhere, the first job you did wasn't difficult and you screwed up, a head job is more difficult and demanding of competence than the first. It only takes one time to burn me.
That being said I would be in support of a verified shop directory by TDR to help people avoid circumstances like mine that are all to common and heard about. I think it would be a really stand out addition to a forum as organized and reputable as this one. I've not been here long but I've learned a lot and shared as much as my experience has allowed. I'm very grateful to have found this site and become a member.
