Excerpt:

"Now, before all you Dodge boys get your knickers in a knot over another story about a Ford Power Stroke winning an event, be advised that (1) he won his class; there was no Top Eliminator (Ford was declared event winner; they won 4 of 5 classes); (2) it was bracket racing, so speed didn't matter; and (3) he didn't beat any Dodges, because they weren't invited at all. Why so many Ford diesel success stories? Because they tell me about them and send me photos to use. If you want Dodge turbo diesel equal time, tell me about your exploits—using Banks Power equipment, of course—and send material to me at the Friday Night News. Same goes for any of you doing anything outstanding, unusual, fun, or maybe even absurd with Banks Powered vehicles. I'm open. Believe it or not. "

It seems to me that ol' Pat is sensitive to some people perceiving a Ford slant by Banks.

In his defense, Pat Ganahl makes a TOTALLY vaild point that he can only print what gets sent to him. IF he doesn't get Dodge stuff, only from Ford guys, then what do you expect??

I think if we are honest with ourselves, Banks doesn't have a bias against Dodges (or else why would sidewinder be a Dakota?). I suspect that since most Dodge diesel hotrodders have long since outgrown/outran Banks parts, there aren't a whole lot of Banks/Dodge combos that are getting national attention. Thus, little mention on a Banks website of the Dodges...

Your mileage may vary...

Isn't it safe to say that most CTD owners are happier bombing their trucks without using Banks, and that's why they don't get a lot of stuff from the Dodge guys?

Seems like most of what I've ever seen about Banks stuff is that it is pricey for what you get. That's not saying the guys who are using Banks aren't happy, just seems like most guys are happier with being able to get even more power for less $$, doing it other ways.

Just my thoughts.

To the contrary, Banks claims it's kits have been installed on over 100,000 Cummins 5. 9s. Their kits are by far the most common power mod on Rams.

Banks shouldn't be making it known that Ford guys are happier with their products than the Dodge boys. It'll hurt their sales to the Dodge boys, in my opinion.

Is this supposed to mean that Banks is better at providing power for Fords than they are for Dodges? If so, why can't they do a better job for the Dodges?

HAHAHA... . I think he's taking offense to the fact that the TDR has educated enough people that we know better than to use hard earned money on overpriced, underpowered products. Has anyone added up the cost difference in the Banks stuff versus say an Edge box and Rip's exhaust? and the power difference? Just a little story... . another kid at my school told me the other day that he was going to put a Banks kit on his CTD... I told him that I'd give him a ride in mine and what it cost me, and that I could do the same for him for less... well, he got the ride and is no longer even considering Banks... can't wait to have our own ERAU BOMBing club... LOL.

Later, Josh.

ya and they are all out camping and reading RV'ing mags where only banks advertises.

if half those morans could see the light 2/3rds or Bank's sales would have never happened.

If the Banks stuff was so popular, you think at least 2 or 3 of those 100,000 kits would pipe up, every now and then.

Perhaps it is just old retirees,in campers, and they don't got no internet!

I say flood them with " I crushed another Banks truck today. " letters! LOL!

When I first bought my truck 2 years ago I didn't know much about diesel performance... never heard the word "BOMB".

So the first thing I did was look up Banks on the internet... heck, every body has heard of Banks.

Their prices were out of sight , to me at least. So poking around on line I finally found TDR.

So even though I'm only slightly bombed for improved drivability, I like not having the Banks advertisement on the truck...

Makes a nice sleeper when the traffic light turns green.

I guess my degreed mechanical engineer father is a moran... . WTF is a 'moran' anyway?

Is Banks what I would put on my truck? No. But the system approach works very well for my dad who doesn't want to spend the time or money trying to put together a 'system' of his own.

I agree that on a 24 valve the Banks isn't worth it, but on a 12 to buy similar mods elsewhere is about the same price. Another thing to remember is that Banks has been in the biz a long time, when I put their kits on my trucks in '95 there really wasn't much else available. I can tow 26k at the speed limit on all but the steepest hills without constantly staring at the pyro, don't really need anything more.

I don't particularly care for Banks stuff either, I don't have any of it. But I have to admit for that project sidewinder they did some nice stuff. I was surprised to see that they were using the new common rail engine on that thing. Banks does have more $$$ to throw at experimentation than the other guys and that engine shows it. I was most impressed with their ported and polished head and the HY55 variable geometry turbo that they integrated electronic controls into. The stainless manifold with the expansion bellows was neat too.

I agree- BAnks is not a good bang for the buck. I have no doubt they make a good product, but for under $100, I can keep up with any Banks kit from my truck's era. Everything stock, except for the 12cm take off housing, I peak at 27 psi (7000 ft), and see a max EGT of 1000 post turbo (1250 pre turbo ?). I get about 12-13 mpg towing with a gross of 21. 5K. that is with a manifold that has shrunken nearly 1/4 inch, and broken a bolt; and 150K on the injectors. with a new ATS manifold, and a 4" exhaust, I could easily outbank a similar Dodge. Plus, the Banks badge is an advertisement you are not as wise, and have money to spend.

But then there is Dr Performance. Talk about a rip off.

At the Goerend dyno run last spring, one of his local costumers had his work truck in for something. It had the top level (with Twin Ram) Banks kit installed. I got the impression he thought he was going to post high (if not the highest) numbers with his truck.

Well, that didn't happen. I beat him by a little and at the time I was running 215 injectors, #5 plate, 181 DV's and a 14 housing through stock exhaust. There were some much stronger trucks than mine there.

I think that the reason they don't get the information sent to them is because the kits they sell are mild compared to what many here have done. Once you learn about these trucks and how to make them more powerful, you can build up a system of your own based on $$ and need for a lot less and get more power.

The Banks kit buyer is probably less likely to try to race a ricer or anyone else for that matter. Big smokey burnouts are probably low on their priority list too.
