We get the following call a lot, “The TDR website is difficult to maneuver. Is there a TDR Website for Dummies available for new members?" So rather than say no, let's build one that we can send to all new TDR Members. And who is in the best position to build it . . . you guessed it - you!

Post your most helpful advice on how to do something on the website - include the problem and how to do it. For example:

Example: How do I change my password? To change this password, follow this link (to the User Control Panel): https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/usercp.php?s=

Look for the link, “Edit Email and Password. ” Follow the online instructions.

Example: How do I change my username? To change your username, email rpatton@ix.netcom.com. Include your current username and your desired username.

Example: Where can I find a list explaining what the acronyms like IMO mean? Here is a link to a thread that gets you started: https://www.turbodieselregister.com...s/49796-abbreviations-acronyms-tdr-lingo.html

NOTE: It is acceptable to post a question without an answer too. We will provide the answer if you do not know it.

We will use your entries to create a “TDR Website for Dummies. ”

What's in it for you? We will randomly select three winners, and they will receive a free TDR Renewal and $25 gift certificate to Geno's Garage.

Think back to those first few frustrating days using vBulletin and the website. Post those issues now!

Robin, you did say the "TDR Website for DUMMIES" is for DUMMIES?

The first thing to suggest is -

Find the ON / OFF button to turn the computer on,,,,

*side note* if the computer is large and sitting on a table (desktop) make SURE the power cord is plugged into the electrical outlet.

For those waiting to alter (dis) this suggestion,,THINKING, this guy can't be SERIOUS... .

If you've been in any tech support position,,,,you know what I'm talking about... . LOL

How to use the SEARCH function, and encouraging "us dummies" to use it BEFORE posting a new thread should be listed right at the top!!!:-laf:-laf

Go to your profile page and fill in your signature, so when you ask a dumb question:-laf we all know what your truck is.

Hey ... ... ... I resemble that remark!!!!!!!!!!!/QUOTE]

Me too, I'm still a jumbo dumbo dummie!!

I'd like to know how to set up a photo gallery and how to post a pdf document. It would be great if we could post more of the common problems and the corresponding repairs be easier to find maybe in the FAQ section? Sometimes they can be hard to locate through a search and end up starting a new thread for something that has already been beat to death.

Sorry I am more in need of the help for dummies!

I use the search button a lot and something I have found to be helpful are these little things called "modifiers" that you can add to the keyword.

This is taken directly from

Turbo Diesel Register: Search engine help

All modifiers except * should be used only once for one word (in the beginning and without space).

* it should be used at the end of a word.

For example:

lift pump - will find messages containing at least one these words.

+lift +pump - will find messages with both these words.

+oil -synthetic - will find messages that include oil but not those with synthetic

tran* will find "trans", "transmission", & "transmission"

*ranny will NOT find "transmission"

"lift pump" will find "I replaced my lift pump", but will not find "I tried to lift my pump".

I must be an original Dummy. In the beginning I couldn't figure out how to set up my Signature when I first signed on. How about a good description of how to do it.

Thanks

Delayed Contest - Apologies

Well, I owe everyone a huge apology for the delay in posting the winner of this contest.

Geno, of Geno's Garage, suffered a major stroke three weeks ago, and I have been spending every free minute (plus some work time) driving to South Carolina (where he retired a few years ago) to help. So, lots of deadlines have been missed.

I will be posting the winner of this contest later today.

Thank you for your patience and support!
