yeh, I thought I loaded them to my readers rigs and could link them to the thread, but some how I musta messed up. :D Anyway yes, I always said if I had the head off I would go ahead and bottom tap. So I will definitely make sure to do so. ;)

Whats "bottom tapping" for us uneducated... . just curious, thanks

bottom tapping is for the head studs, so they go all the way to the bottom of the threaded hole. when the head is on, you cant do this, but when it is off, you can. some say that bottom tapping is essential, while others say it isnt.

hope this helps

Personally, I think the deeper you can sink a stud into the block, the better the strength of the assembly - sorta like the difference between a shallow building foundation and a deeper one - besides it's not hard to do, so why not? ;)

Do these studs not have an allen insert on the head so they can be screwed all the way in?

So many secrets... . :-laf

Look at who's talking :D I just tore it down for a cam replacement. Then he comes back with modded cp3. :D

Anyway, I think you know enough. ;)

Just an FYI for everyone- I am not giving any comments on the rough running till I have it back up and running this weekend. After 2 years of plowing snow and generally abusing this truck daily, there were quite a few things noticed. :D So, until it is back up and running perfect, I am going to plead the 5th. :D Don't worry though, I won't hold anything back once I know for sure. :D

oh yeh, this tear down was for numerous reason. There were quite a few things I wanted to do.

The rear freeze plug has always worried me for one, so I plated it.

The turbine housings and ATS manifold got ate up from the road salt pretty bad, so we cleaned them up and recoated them.

The cold pipe in the twins was rubbing the battery, so that is being taken care of.

And there is one or two other things I wanted to do ;)

I can go anytime. I am only about 10 minutes away from it. Usually we all get together in the fall for the all diesel drags. :D

I have a ? for you Wade, when you saif "if done properly" do you mean the all of the upgrades that he has done to his truck, or simply the cp3 and infamous rail cap that you talk about so much? just curious. This project is being done properly, that is the only way to do it. matter of fact, we are doing this project more completely than i have seen some professional shops do work.
