Greetings from AK.
So, since I have owned my 2010 since last December, I have had the starter keep running after engine started. Has happened maybe 5 to 6 times now. If I turn the key back to off, the starter stops (like it should) and engine stops. The best way I can describe the sound is that of a dieseling engine, an engine that does not shut down when asked to, like old school diesels sometimes do. I have replaced both batteries, the starter, the starter relay on the passenger side battery. I have not let it run to see how long it would do this. The truck has 140,000mi on it. 4x4 auto.

There is a single bullet style connector (I think on 2003) above the brake booster. Disconnect the connector and see if the starter still works. If it doesn't you have found the starter solenoid wire going to the starter from the IPM. Next find the 74 way grey connector above the dip stick. In cavity 7 you should find a yellow wire. That is the wire between the ignition switch and IPM. Next time it happens leave it running and check with a test light at the yellow wire of 74 way connector. If you have voltage the ignition switch is bad. If not, disconnect the single wire and see if the starter stops. If it does the problem is between the IPM and starter, or the relay in the IPM is stuck.

My understanding is that the computer tells the starter to run/off. I have just bumped the start position to see if the starter would still come on and start the engine. It did, that is, I believe verifies that the computer tells the starter to run/off.

OK, now that I have the correct truck it is a little more difficult. Same idea, little different wiring and major difference in pieces. The WIN (ignition node or switch) gets the input to start when you hit the key. It looks to see if everything to start is OK, then commands the PCM to turn on the starter relay in the TIPM. So I have attached a couple of wiring diagrams to give yo an good picture of how it works. But instead of using a test light you probably should use a DVOM to check for voltage. Also take a good look at the connectors for corrosion, especially the C210 that is probably exposed to road salt and water.
A dealer scan tool would be very helpful, but only when it is hooked up when the started stays engaged.

where is the TIPM located? I replaced a relay that dealer says is a starter relay that mounts to the pass side battery box, on the side facing the firewall.
