Rear End Shudder

I now have about 5. 000 miles towing with the Prodigy controller and there is an amazing difference from my old controllers. I was using a Kelsy Hayes unit and it seemed to work OK. However I was always fiddling with the gain and angle settings to make them work. This new unit is simple, it just plane works. It was about time for a major leap in electric controllers. I am now a very happy trailer puller. :)

Some questions

I have a Kelsey controller, the type that plugs into the stock Dodge harness. It doesn't have the angle of the dangle knob like the Tekonsha units do, but it does have the gain knob. I like the fact it only has the gain control, but the braking comes on kinda slow until about 3-4 seconds then it brakes like it should. How does the Jordan unit work? Do it adjust itself so you don't have to mess with it?

I would like some more info, I am very interested in a better controller than I've got.

Thanks

Prodigy- Best mod to my truck yet!

Do the saying "the difference between night and day" mean anything to you? I also ran a Kelsey. Not my choice, but the dealer who sold me my RV. As a part of a package sale, they will spend the least possible on the parts necessary to tow the rig that you just bought from them. I am not here to slam Kelsey. But I am responding to tell you that the Prodigy (proportional) controller is in MHO outstanding. You get what you pay for and truer couldn't be said about controllers. Don't know how much you are towing but my 5ver weighs in at 8500# MT. You will be safer towing and others on the road will be safer as a result of you being able to stop when you want/need to regardless of the terrain. Hope this helps in your decision.

Those electronic step controllers should be outlawed for those towing anything bigger than a tent trailer. They are useless and dangerous in an emergency manouver. Who has 3-4 seconds to stop at a crosswalk or in a playground zone??

I don't know how those controlers got on the market. I had a Draw-tite, and left it in the dumpster at the campground and installed a Tekonsha... That was a waste of money...

I heard real good things from the Tekonsha controllers a couple of weeks ago. We were camping in seguin and a friend told me how he likes his. I have one on my wish list before too long. I also have a Draw-Tite now.

trailer weight with tekonsha controller

I am towing a 9,000# two axle cargo trailer or a Tanden dual 25' equipment trailer with my 12. 000# pulling tractor on it. The controller works equily well with ether trailer.

Gonzo, sorry to get off subject, but what size engine is in your I. H. ? To get back on track a little. So your Prodigy works fine with your big trailer. That's good to hear since I'm ordering one in a couple of weeks. Does it react pretty quick when you get on the brakes? Thanks.

Prodigy and puller tractor

My tractor is a 1972 IH 1066. I just built a DT 466 IH engine. I ported and polished the head, installed a roller cam and balanced it. Seems to run quite well. The controller reacts quite quickly and then fades off as you slow down. There are two more aggressive positions on it also. .

Thanks Gonzo. If you want to give your controller a workout, you can haul that tractor down here and let me "play" with it. ;) :D Really, I wish you good luck with it.

Jordan controller

As far as the Jordan controller, its SUPER SMOOTH, and not to mention that the more you push the brakes, the more it applies the trailer brakes, no surges. Another great factor is the brakes are on right away, no delay. And when you figure the price of the brake controller, its way cheaper than an insurance deductable for plowing into the rear of that 16y/o that doesn't understand how come your ram hauling a #16,000 lb. trailer can't stop as quickly as his honda.
