I have a Prodigy P3 in my Sprinter. We just had it to Florida and back. Anyway, I noticed something strange with the P3 during our trip and I was wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen. We were sitting in traffic for approximately 15 min or so with just the van and no trailer with us. When we started to move again, I noticed that the display had changed from the standard rest screen to showing gain as if I had a trailer connected. It stayed on that screen for a minute or two then showed the flashing red "no trailer connected" warning and then back to the standard screen that is displayed when no trailer is present.

My question is, why did the controller think that it had a trailer connected and then switch back?

I've found that if you don't have a trailer connected to a Prodigy and you sit still for 15 minutes or longer without applying the brakes the controller times out. Thus, when you re-activate it will go through it's normal start up cycle.

I had a P3 "faint" and had not kept the receipt, so I had to buy a new one. I unplug this one when not in use. Like light bulbs, they only have so many cycles before they go kaputch.

I've been using the same P-1 commercially for well over a half million miles and it still works the same. I never unplug it, even though not all the trailers I pull have brakes.
