I only had one highschool chemestry class too and didn't do that well because I wasn't intrested in doing homework either but like you I picked up alot even though I didn't get the good grades.
You asked why bother with propane? I don't bother with it. Thease engines will make more power than I will ever need with just plane old diesel. Diesel likes to burn lean. It will start to smoke quite a bit before there is not enough oxegen. At this point propane may clean things up a little and help burn the extra fuel with the extra oxegen in the cyl. At some point there will not be enough oxegen and then there is no point in adding propane or diesel without getting more oxegen.
