Does anyone here have experience with the toyo open country mt? I’m looking to pick up a set of 285/75 16 mud tires to run on my extra set of factory wheels. I only plan to run them during the winter and hunting season, then I’ll be going back to the factory Michelins. I’m deciding between the Goodyear wrangler mt/r and the toyo mt’s. I’m leaning towards the toyo’s, but I would like to hear opinions on them.

Also, does anyone know a website with good prices to pick up the toyo’s?

Thanks,

Chris

I too am thinking about the Toyo's(35/12. 50/17 m/t). How is the road noise compared to BFG's? Thanks in advance.

aside from being hard to get right now I don't think there is a better tire out there for the winter than the Open Country MT. The M55's are good tires and will wear a little bit better but you dont get the traction you do with the OC MT. They wear exceptionally well for an M/T we have heard of reports of more than 50k on a set out here.

I would love to try the MTs!

If they work nearly as well as my M55s I would love 'em!

I was at my hunting camp today and drove all over the backcountry in about a foot and a half of snow in 2 wheel drive. I only had to pull the lever once, and that was to turn around.

I really like these Toyos!

You might check 1010tires. I bought my M55s from them and despite shipping from Vancouver, they were still cheaper than local Toyo shops that had to 'special order' the M55s.

I have TOYO MT on my truck and I have just tested them on a 2K mile drive to Grand Canyon from Texas. Some of you would like to know about road noise. You can tell you have some meaty tires on the road, but it's not really bad. I can’t compare to other MT since this is my very first set. I just installed them last week from stock rugged terrain BFG. The sound is not that bad on the free- way, or above 60 MPH when you start rolling pretty fast. You will here a small roar approaching the 40 MPH. Go a little faster and the small roar changes to regular highway sound. My wife gave the OK that they are NOT loud so that should be worth a great testimony itself. The tires look great. I have only driven on city and free-way dry surface so I can’t comment on other terrains.

Thanks

Allen

I just put a set of 295/70/17 on friday and so far they are great! Not much road noise at all and they ride very good. They also clear the on the front of a 2wd with about an inch from the rear of the fender and I still have not done the recall on the springs or the 2" spacers. i hope to get the front up about 3" and the truck should be level. I paid about $10. 00 less per tire installed than what 1010 sells them for.

The recall is for 05 3500 only.

Did you get the Open Country M/T's in load range E? Where did you get them?

Yes they are the M/T E's Thry came from a independant dealer by my house,he said they are no problem getting them.

If you are having a problem finding toyo 295/70/17 tires ,I have a connection 8 tires left. . Distbuter said once these are gone they will not have more for another 2 months or so

Thanks

Thanks for the help everyone.

Everywhere i've tried has said 285/75/16s are on national backorder for about 60 days. Oh well.

They seem to be an awesome tire and i would really like to try a set but i'll probably have to settle for something different.

Thanks again,

Chris

Just an update...

since i couldn't locate a set of the Toyo mt's i ended up going with a set of goodyear mt/r's. I've only got about 500 miles on them, but so far i am very impressed with them. Obviously it will take some time to see how they wear, but initially they ride very smooth, minor noise (atleast over the cummins) and have awesome traction.

ive been looking at the cooper discoverer stt's. made by the same company and the lugs are almost identical. just got quoted 990 for 35/12. 5/17. too bad there have released the 16" ones yet
