I have been reading about people who use fueling boxes to increase power and other use different injectors to the same end. . Now I do see where the fueling boxes might void the warrenty, i. e. damaged wires on the vp44 but changing the injectors would be undectable to a dealer would it not thus making it harder to void the warrenty?? Also since I am new to diesels but do know a little about gas engine hopup,, the diesel is an air pump like the gas engine - just different fuel and ignition,, would one HAVE TO increase the exhaust size and intake size to take full advantage of different injectors? similar to the same type of hopups on a gas engine,, or would it simply be enough to change injectors to ones passing a bit more fuel??

I am looking at doing a mild bombing to my truck so at this point in time might be satisfied with simply changing the injectors for more power but still keeping the 7-7 warrenty intact... .

Yes, I am moving toward the "dark side" :D what were people saying about losing the stock muffler????? WAAhahahahahahaha:cool:

Many of the most active posters are really into power mods, and will recommend DDII's or larger. Most accept that loss of warranty comes with the territory. I bought this truck for long life and mpg, and have been very, very happy with my RV275's. I bought them from Wildcat Diesel at a great price, handed them to the dealer, and he installed them. I got the impression he would not have voided my warranty because they are an OEM part; but, it may be that the dealer saw 95k + on the odometer and just figured it wasn't worth ******* me off when my warranty would be gone in a month or two anyway. With this mild BOMB, you could stay stock EXCEPT FOR AN EGT GAUGE. Yes, I "shouted" that last part on purpose.

If you really are moving to the dark side, you should stay stock for a little while to be sure there are no bugs, then do the whole deal after spending a few weeks reading old posts on this board and talking to some vendors on the phone.

I guess I should add in here one of the reasons I purchased this truck is to tow a race trailer to race tracks in my area. Now the rig only weighs in at around 4000 Lbs. so its not really a huge load for this truck,, was for my dakota though,, so I can see the need for a EGT guage but adding a larger exhaust might balance that out??? of course a freer intake is also needed... GOSH!!!! this just keeps going and going and going... ... :D

Just the beginning

Richard,

I started out with just an injector upgrade (got the RV injectors from TST). That did give more performance, but already I had begun the process where the truck gets better and your Visa card gets worse.

I had hoped to stop there (as you say 'mild bombing') but the increased torque at lower throttle positions caused slippage in my lockup clutch at around 50-65 mph.

Because I have a fairly heavy 5th wheel (14,000 lbs approx) and because having a transmission give out on a camping trip just takes all the fun out of it, I did a lot of research before making a move. I finally decided to 'do it right' and had the ATS triple lock converter and valve body installed. Before going on, let me just state that DTT, Dave Goerend, and others are good alternatives too, but I was (and still am) blown away by the performance of the triple lock clutch.

This combination was great, but I had already been infected with a very severe case of the dangerous BOMB virus! The transmission was so solid now I just had to have the Edge Comp box. With that change, it wouldn't be safe without gauges... ... ... and so it goes.

To summarize, upgrading is like diving into a pool ---- very difficult to stop once you start! You could install the injectors and stop there. However if you have an automatic, I would strongly suggest upgrading it if you upgrade the engine in any way. The improvement in performance and peace of mind are worth it.

Good luck in whatever you choose in upgrades and welcome to the group of TDR members adicted to BOMBing!!

I have a HO with a 6 speed,, yes I know the clutch will be the next thing... ... . WAAAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA after the 4" exhaust and the free air intake and the really big injectors,,,, and maybe a new turbo and and and... . AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHh I have the BOMB bug

BOMBing & warranty

I don't want to bust your bubble but any BOMBing could void your warranty and yes the dealer can tell if you have bigger injectors by checking the puter for fuel flow rate or pulling one out and looking up the part number. The only way around it would be to get the stealth injectors which I think are the DD1's which have the stock part number on the body but then again you will not get the full use out of them unless you add the boost module can be seen to the trained eye.

Another thing to think about - My Uncles 2001 HO/6sp pulls better stock then my 99/5sp did with 275rv injectors and a boost module and he got a little better fuel mileage.

There is some good advice here. I didn’t wait to bomb our truck. In about 6 months it was powered to the point it is now. Besides, one trip around the block with some DD2’s or larger and the dealer will suspect something for sure. No doubt about that! One of the members here is fond of saying “Repeat after me, ‘I am my own warranty station. ’” Pretty obvious. If you value your warranty more than the fun and muscle factor, don’t do it. Otherwise – go for it and don’t look back…if you do you might see some ferds and chubbys trying to catch up. :D

Richard:

I am told that the Cummins "INSITE" Computer Software

Program to "read" the diagnostics on the 24 valve engines

can detect "overfueling" and high boost from most of the

aftermarket fueling boxes.

As the other members said, "I am my own warranty

station!" :)

I was reading this thread and just came up something. . I'm going to use the term, "I am my BEST warranty station" since we all know 99. 99999% of DC dealers pretty much suck when it comes to any type of warranty.

The only time I had a dealer respond to my request was when there was a safety recall for the towing hitch.

Boy, am I glad I didn't buy the extended warranty from DC.
