Oil Pressure Guage install question

I know most ppl are either putting the sender in the hot line or using the second test port. I installed my guages yesterday, and when I tried to thread the sender into the second test port, it wouldn`t thread in. The hole there on the transmission port is too small for the probe on the sender to slide into. The threads are correct, but the sender won`t slide into the hole far enough for the threads to catch. I pulled the plug out of the front test port and the sender went into it fine. My question is this, do I need a differant sender, or will the front port work ? The gauge works great there from what I can tell, but I`ve never heard of anyone having this problem and had to use the front port. Will it work and be ok ???

TIA

I assume you are talking about the trans. you need too use some adapters to extend it out or you will bottom out the sender. I may have a PDF file on this if so I will add it in.

Yes, sorry, I am talking about a trans temp gauge. I know you can use an adaptor, but will it hurt anything being in the front test port instead ?

I pulled the pan off and brazed half of a 1/8 pipe coupler in the back of the pan to install the sender. While I was there I brazed the other half in the bottom for a drain plug. From the techs that I have talked to, they told me the best place is in the pan. The cooler lines will be higher on the supply to the cooler and lower on the return. He said you would get the saturation temp of the trans in the pan. Besides, if you install it in the cooler line or one of the ports, you could restrict the flow. With this advice I went with the pan install.
