Some Basic Questions on Clutch/transmission Upgrades

Getrag to Nv-5600?

I have the 48RE and want to install my transmission temp probe. Somewhere on this site someone said they installed it in an 1/8" pipe plug on the passenger side of the transmission, I have 5 plugs on this side, so which one do I use? I don't want to start pulling these out, with my luck it would ruin the transmission. Is there an easier/better place to put it? Thanks. John

Why don't you get Pablo to pick you up a line from 94/95 truck? Install a 3/8 to 1/8 NPT bushing in line port and install probe. Gives you hot temp heading for the cooler. I have this and it works very well and measures oil at hottest point.

Get the Diesel Dynamics line to put on the trans outlet line. That is what I am getting. It's $80 but already has a 1/8" port for the probe. It gives the hottest readings (most accurate). The ports on the side of the trans. can be inaccurate IMO.

The line pressure test port has about the same reading as the cooler line. I recently replaced my stock temp sensor with a resister because I was having trouble with the trans getting warm enough to shift to OD. When I did that I moved the trans temp sensor from the line pressure test port to the cooler line. As far as I can tell the temp readings are the same in the same situations. A look at a flow diagram in the service manual makes me think that the temp will be the same or close in both locations. If you use a solenoid pressure test point the temp readings will be way low. I did not answer this thread earlier because I don't know if this situation is the same for a 48RE. It probably is. Some members have reported that the temp sensor bottoms out in the line pressure test port. That may depend on the brand of gauges you have. I have Westach.
