Goddard, I never ran a temp. gauge for the transmission, can't offer much advice there. Guess you could always remove one of the PTO covers during your next service and tap same for a probe ? Sure that someone else has a simpler solution. One is the Fast coolers, which are already set up for a temp. probe if you don't mind spending the bucks for the covers.

Engine oil temp. is a piece of cake. On top of your oil filter housing you will see a 1/8" NPT silver plug. Remove that plug and screw in your sender for engine oil temps. , works like a champ.

bogsaint thanks for the tip! had not noticed the plug, i will look closer.

would still like to know whether any other way to probe the trans?

I just drilled and tapped the fill plug for 1/8" pipe thread, which is what the senders are. I did the same on my USGear 2sp. I have the Mag-Hytec rear diff cover and it is already tapped. I use a tripple throw, double pole miniature switch from Radio Shack to switch between the probes so only have the one gauge for three probes. Works well.

While I had mine down for the 5th gear fix I installed FAST COOLERS and used the port for the temp probe. It takes it a while to warm up. The highest it has gone is 150 deg. I have not towed yet.

I was thinking the same way Larry described except just use a bushing reducer instead of tapping. But was also thinking that the sender wouldn't be submerged in the fluid, maybe there is enough splash and it doesn't matter.

I had the same thoughts then realized the Mag-Hytec sender is in the very top of the diff cover and works fine. That hot oil gets flung everywhere I'm sure. Seems to work fine for me.
