I just returned from Ilwaco Wa, fishing trip (fishing is incredible in the ocean right now) Anyways to the point, How hot do other trucks get when pulling a 5 to 6% grade in 100 deg heat with the ac off and a 12,000# trailer. I had to stop at the first rest stop out of Yakima Wa because my gauge was just about tickling the red. I was not pulling hard 3/4 throtle egt 1000 to 1100 at about 55 mph. My buddy with the powerstroke and same trailer had the ac full blast and running 1000 degrees after the turbo said his gauge never moved. ps my pyro is before the turbo.

ps ps Unfortunally our power is about equal after he put in the bd chip and new exhust.

I pulled the same hills with my 10K 5er and the coolant temperature never left the 190 mark.



Never exceeded 190 round trip to and from Mt Rushmore

and there are several passes in between

Check out your whole cooling system. You don't have an auto trans to blame it on.



My coolant level was down about 3/4 gallon when I went on vacation two weeks ago. Temp was a little higher than normal plus engine sounded rough when coming of highway. I topped it off the next day and it ran like it always did.



But I would check coolant level, for leaks, loose belt, bad water pump, blown head gasket, and check to make sure gauge and sending unit are working right.

Check that your coolers aren't clogged up with bugs.
