Last weekend pulling my 5th, i got behind a 18 wheeler and when i finnially could pass i had to get on it fast. I noticed my engine temp shot up around 3/4 , maybe 210 and then the clutch fan came on. That never happened before. I could see my sending unit go to 195,and the fan would come on. I think i got on it and it took a little time to come on. When coming home from the trip everthing was normal and not so hot outside. What is the temp. that the fan clutch is to kick in anyway? Thanks for the help.

Possibly the thermostat momentarily hungup, allowing temp to rise more/faster than usual - it sometimes happens, and is worth keeping an eye on - had it happen on my '91 a couple of times, finally had to install a new one...

As far as the actuating temp for the fan, mine seemed to come on at about 2/3 scale on the temp guage...
