Temp. Sensor in Auto transmission

I have 96 3500 with an auto transmission. I currently have a temp sensor on the dip stick for the trans. I want to change it to a direct connect with the trans. I have noticed two quarter inch ports on the front, passenger side, of the trans. I had originally planned to purchase a new 95 exit line because of the external port and connect at this point. Can I use one of the ports on the trans and save myself a few bucks and if so, which one should I connect into?

Yes you can use the ports but those are for a spacific gear, front port is for 3rd gear. It is better to use an in-line or in the pan, I currrently have mine in the mag-tech pan.

I asked this question awhile back, and the TDR guru's told me that the middle port (accumulator) was a good one to put the sensor in, but it wouldn't read temp in the reverse position. Susposedly this port was recommended by some reputable trans people. Take it for what it is worth, hope this helps. I have just bought a 2001 pan, which is about 5/8" deeper than the earlier pans, which I am welding a port into for the trans sensor. The pan is from DC and about $57 retail.

I haven't done it yet but you can get the main supply line to the cooler with the made-in port for a sensor for $100. 00, then you will know the temps coming out of the pump, I used the pan cause it was there. If you use the new line remember to take out the check ball as it is only a restricter.

The line that Jim speaks of is the dodge factory line from a 94-95 ram. During these years this is where the factory sender went.



There was someone around here who sold kits, where you take the line out, cut out a section and insert a 'T'. These are much cheaper, but require the cutting and can leak of not put together right. The line is more expensive, cut is an easy swap and no leak potential.

It's cheap as heck to replace all the lines with double-braided 1/2" hydraulic hoses... . only cost me about $80 to do it all up.



Use a 7. 5K Ohm resistor where that stock temp sensor used to be and plumb up your aftermarket temp sensor any old place you want it.
