Its been in the 90s out here and I have noticed the temp goes up and down. When it goes up it runs hotter than normal. I do hear the roar sometimes. The fan doesn't turn freely, so I would think the clutch is good. The thermostat was replaced last fall. I am low on freon, would that cause it? Any other ideas?

Gary

Low freon will just make the A/C compressor cycle more, shouldn't affect the temp. They will run hotter with the A/C on of course, but just a little in town. Check to see if the radiator is clean, the infamous puke bottle has plugged up more than a few. Mine doesn't change at all with the A/C on, just when towing uphill.

When the radiator and the fan clutch work well there shouldn't be fluctuations. If you don't pull the radiator you can't possiblly clean it properly. Use Engine Gunk and pressure washer, dont put the pressure washer too close to the radiator could damadge it.
