Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) temporary loss of power

Yesterday driving home from work my truck started loosing power a couple of times for about a minute at a time. I was crusing about 80 mph and it just lost power until about 55 mph and it kicked back in and ran normal. Fuel pressure was at 11 psi, boost stayed at about 10, EGT was about 8,000. There were no signs of additional smoke and the temp gauge (dash) started climbing from 190 to about 210. The go pedal had no effect on power. Any suggestions what to check first? I have 308k on it and just made my last payment yesterday! YAHOO

8000 EGT!!!!!!!!, thats a nuclear Cummins, must have meant 800.

Fuel filter, bad fuel, or electronics--TPS, ECM, PCM, etc.

Same thing happened to me going up a small incline about 50 mph, almost felt like I ran out of gas, engines dies and tach drops, then catches again (happened a couple of times about 10 to 15 seconds each), eventually it returned to normal and I made it home. Everythng was ok for a couple of weeks, then I had a eratic throttle after a normal start up (step on gas and the engine would rev abruptly). I ended up just parking the truck (happened in my drive way) and drove my car (I was in a rush). Later that day I re-started the truck and it seemed fine.



I looked at the APPs and noticed a frayed throttle cable. I replaced the trottle cable ($54 from local dealer) and Just to be sure I replaced the APPs ($300 from mopar 4 less), its been a month now and no problems. The trottle feels much smother, not sure if it was a the cable or the new Apps.

Your [very poor 44] vp44 is starting to go south, it will happen more often. if you turn the key off and on it will come back, but that gets old fast. I have had 2 vp44 do that.
