Hi guys:

With my 12 cm housing with no wastegate and very little fueling enhancements, I'm getting pretty close to you guys with wastegate foolers and small 230 horse plates. I was wondering what kind of boost boost adn EGT numbers you all were seeing. I can hit 950* and 24# of boost empty. I have a 3" straight pipe only and a K&N filter in the stock air box. If I address these problems I should be able to flow a little more air and keep her considerably cooler.

Thanks,

John

Make sure you specify where you are taking your EGT readings... it makes a big difference. Pre/post turbo is at least 300°F different... . and pre-turbo is much more responsive to changes in temp.

Matt

I just hit 1550*pre turbo, not pulling anything, going up a small grade hill full throttle..... never did that before... ...

Right now the truck doesn't have a plate in it... nor does it have a rack stop in the AFC housing. Can you say rack travel? :D

Currently I'm running the stock 160hp injectors and 181 delivery valves.

The pump also has a tightly adjusted Piers' 3k RPM governor spring kit.

I wouldn't worry about 950°F pre-turbo... . that's rather cool... . and not even beginning to work the engine much.

You can hold 1250°F for hours on end... . anything higher than that you can only hold for less than a minute or so.

The daring folks cheat piston crown and headgasket death by defying these 'rules' all the time. To each his own.

Holeshot Holset,

Can you say giddie up:D I'll bet that your truck runs pretty good. What do you have on it for a turbocharger? You could really get fuel if you put a set of 370's in her. Thanks for the post, so I can run the engine continuous at 1250*?

John

John,

I can hit 1700 degrees pre turbo on flat ground(if I keep it floored in 4th or 5th to 4000 rpm) After about 3500 rpm the temps. go up rapidly. This is at 37 psi of boost. I have towed for over 5 min. intervals at 1400 degrees for a few years now with no engine damage so far.

Garry.

John: I have a WH1C - the predecessor to the HX35-W.

I hit 39psi all the time... .

As for the 370's... . I'm going to put in a set of injectors that require twins or triples after my new transmission goes in. :D

In the meantime she spools REAL quick and gets out of its own way just fine for my currently mild setup.

Matt

Matt,

I see in your sig you have a bettle too huh? How do you like it? Also, if I remember correctly didn't you have a set of twins at one time  Maybe I am thinking someone else.

The Beetle TDI is sweet... . avg. 45mpg and a best of 52mpg.

As for the twins... . that is a subject better talked about in person or on the phone... . those who know the story can just sit back and chuckle. :-laf
