Guitarists: Help me pick out a new TUBE guitar amp...

We have had ours for over 3 years now and been happy with it.

One of the reasons we like it is because when one or the other is restless, the mattress does not transmit the motion to the other side.

It was pricey, to us at least, and there are to be other similar types out now, so maybe less pricey solutions, with the same technology, are around?

We have one, expensive but no transmission of movement, pretty comfortable but it does – no matter what the salesman tells you – remember your shape. There will be a permanent dent where you sleep. We called customer service about it, they did send a guy out to look at it and said it was within their definition of acceptable – I think that means the divot is less than two inches deep – and would not communicate with us again. The foam reflects more heat back to you, I think because the foam is plastic. Not a bad thing in the winter but in the summer it may be another issue.

For a lot less money there are some pretty good pillow tops out there… The wife and I have both and are spending more time on the pillow top these days.

I cant comment on the tempurpedic but we have one of the select comfort or now they call them sleep number beds. That thing is great. You can independantly adjust the firmness from one side to the other. Movement is not transmitted across the bed either. The point about heat is a valid one. I know in the summer I run a higher sleep number than I do in the winter just for that reason. Dont know how they compare in price to the tempurpedic though.

To be honest I am not sure which one it is. It is about 5 years old maybe a bit more but at the time it was the high end one with the pillowtop etc. Never should have taken my wife with me. She was quite happy with the plain jane model until the salesman talked her into laying on the high end one then that was the only one she wanted. I even told her I am only willing to spend x amount on a bed, she said fine no problem whipped out her checkbook and asked the salesman whats the difference in price. Definitely more expensive than the plain jane model was but it is also definitley nicer. If I recall some of the differences were the pillowtop, more/thicker foam layers underneath, stood higher, a few others too that I cant think of now. It is definitiely comfy though.

We just got one, King size. We're on Day 5 currently. It's taking a bit to get used to. Strange feeling at first but better every day. Don't be shy about lying on it in the showroom for an hour. In a special promo, we didn't pay sales tax, and they threw in the pillows. $125 each for King size. (All dealers sell it for the same price, so make sure they throw in the pillows, or something to sweeten the deal)

Anyway, the nicer beds were pretty pricey, Simmons, Serta, etc. The Tempurpedic was about $1k more, but has a 20 year warranty. We've only had our previous bed for a couple years and we're already replacing it. I sleep hot, my wife calls me the hairy furnace. (Don't go there... ) But I'm not uncomfortable at all in the tempurpedic. I thought the foam would make me a sweaty miserable mess, but not at all, it breathes really well.

And the cats seem to like it... Hope this helps.

My wife and I are just contemplating the tempur pedic or a sleep number. I have bad neck pain when I wake up and base of the skull headaches. I am more inclined to think it's my pillow rather than the bed.

We have seen allot of favor for the tempur pedic and not so good feedback on the sleep number. We went to the local tempur pedic guy and the best he could do (with allot of frustration I might add) was $3100 on a Queen size celebrity with base and 2 free pillows delivered for free with no tax.

Now the only other thing is I can get the same thing on Ebay for $2450 which is a nice size savings but I hate buying big ticket stuff over the net. The company seems alright with 100% pos feedback... . what would you do?

I was thinking about just buying the tempur pedic pillows but now my wife is in love with the bed

i had a tempurpedic for about a week. IMO they suck. i have 2 bad discs in my back so it takes alot to get comfortable. but it does do what its supposed to, when they say it forms to your body it does, but if toss and turn at night you have to physically move yourself. you just cant roll over easy.

Any new comments to this thread?

My wife and I just went out bed shopping, and I thought that I was going to have to take the plunge and spend about a grand on a new set. Well, while hopping on all the different models, I spotted a few that were approaching the $4k mark. I figured that I should lay on one of those just to see what kind of fools are getting taken for a ride. The shocking thing is that I couldn't stay away from it after that! It was the Tempur-Pedic Eurobed "Ultra Plush". For the brief time that I spent on it, it was the most comfortable bed that I had ever layed on. How can foam cost so much (even with the NASA, Space Foundation, Arthritis Foundation, and Good Housekeeping recognitions). The store (local Gottschalks) is having an upcoming sale where they pay the sales tax. Also, if I open a Gottschalks account, I'll get another 10% off. But this still leaves me at $3482. 10 out the door for a California King. Is this really worth it? Please someone talk me out of it!

They're great mattresses. We have a California King. The only bad parts about them, is that you will rupture yourself if you have to move it upstairs and that you have withdrawal symptoms when you have to sleep on something else... . :D

Don't do it! Don't even think about it.

Thanks for the support RT66DOC! :D

Yike's, it is going up stairs. Isn't that part of the free delivery?

The so called 20-year warrantee isn't as good as it first sounds. In fact, it is more like a 10-year warrantee. I'm also concerned about not being able to roll as someone stated previously. Assuming the bed is to last 10-years, that is about a buck a night. But the reality is, I will be spending more time in it than my truck. :-laf

I checked out the local dealer and he took a few hundred off the price, offered to pay sales tax and give me a couple pillows. It still came out to $3100 for a celebrity queen.

I ended up getting a celebrity queen off ebay which included the base and 2 queen pillows. No tax and even with shipping came out to $2340 and the delivery guy helped me bring it in.

The bed is very comfortable but I think the pillows is what improved my sleep the most, I was a serious insomniac and now I'm almost into a normal sleep pattern.

For some reason I kept going back to the EuroBed "Ultra Plush". It has Velour/Suede top and sides. Perhaps it was a little more firm than the others. You really purchased it off of E-Bay? I'm a little nervous about buying such an expensive item site unseen. Our local store says that there is a 60-day free trial. If it is returned, there is a 10% restocking fee because they cannot be sold as new. "They get returned and santitized and sold through discount stores". Not sure what that meant. Do you remember the name of your online store? TIA Perhaps I just need the pillow? :D

The name was also "CelebrityQueen". I was hesitant to, I have bought alot of stuff off ebay and they had a high number of sales and 99. 9% positive feedback. I figured if it didn't come exactly as described I just wouldn't accept delivery and file a claim if I had to. I opened it and it was vacum sealed in factory wrap and had the warranty cards inside. Normally coming from a factory like that if it is sent back they package it in "refurb" or "wholesale" type wrap which this did not have. The celebrity bed has a thick Cashmere pillowtop and sides.

I bought one of these about 2 months ago (Labor Day weekend). I got the Cal King and 2 pillows. So far, I like it, but it hasn't helped me sleep quite as well as I would have hoped, but I have bad insomnia...

I had gone through 3 spring mattresses in 5 years, they all sagged so badly in the middle that each time I had the manufacturers reps come out to check them, and each time they authorized a replacement as they had sagged too much. After 3 in so short a time, I decided to get away from spring mattresses. And it's only me sleeping on the things! I had an Ortho, Serta PerfectSleeper and a Wickline spring mattress

Argh!

We finally took delivery of our California King last night and I must say that at least for the first night, my wife and I both concluded that it was a bit different than in the store. I sure hope this thing grows on us! I kept having dreams that I was sinking in mud. :D At least with the new store we bought it at, there is only a $59 restocking fee (to pay for the pickup) for the first 90-days if were not completely satisfied.

It's a little stiff at first, but it'll break in. My side broke in a lot faster than the Girlfriends side. Just invite people over to jump on it. :D
