Can anyone confirm how many bolts I need to blue loctite before the cover gets reinstalled? Ive read there are three under the cam gear, but I see four.. Four for the oil pump, and then two more in plain view including the "kdp" bolt which would be ten total?? And remove one at a time, clean with brake clean and them blue loctite and tighten. 18 FT-LB on cover, gear case and cam retainer bolts..

Ive had good luck with permatex #2 for the bolts that go into aluminum housing threads and almost tempted to use #2 exclusively.

Thanks

I would do all of them! Why take a chance, and you’ll do no harm. To backtrack another time is too much to gamble.
The B’s and especially the C 8.3’s are notorious for loosening fasteners over time.
Yes cleanliness is paramount. Carb cleaner or acetone and a small tip blow gun to blow out the threaded holes.

Yeah, no question about if to loctite them.. But rather trying to confirm there are ten bolts, and maybe any additional tips because with the radiator in the way, it would be easy to ever look something.

The bolt behind the cam gear at 4:30 cant be removed with the cam in. I got a tiny 10mm ignition wrench on it and it seems tight. But loosening it doesn't sound like a good idea.

That bolt behind the cam gear will get some Loctite 290 Wick In. I backed it out 4 turns with my bent wrench and blasted it with brake clean. Hoping the few threads adhere. Also decided to go 25 foot pounds as my test bolt broke approaching 40# No wonder some bolts from the factory loosened as they weren't stretched. 18's not enough imo

As far as my crank seal.. Can I, or should I polish the crank seal surface with wet/dry? Which grit?
I cant decide if I want to keep the new seal in the same position because the crank doesn't have a visible groove where the old seal was riding. Or move it back if I have enough room? Looks like this is the second seal installed on this engine from the look of the shallow groove further forward.
