your state's dot requirements should be on the internet. Most state's don't require emissions testing for diesel powered vehicles.

Check your local regulations as well as State. For Example; Colorado does not require an Emissions test BUT the Denver Metro Counties, DO! And they cost more than gas vehicles and are required to get your tags in those counties! GregH

As above, depends on the county. In Nashville (Davidson and surrounding counties) they plug into your computer and visually inspect for a catalytic convertor and do a sniff test on exhaust. In Memphis (Shelby county) they test all systems (lights, wipers, parking brake, exhaust sniff).

I think the only counties that require emissions testing are Davidson, Shelby, Hamilton, Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson, and Wilson counties.

Check: The Official State of Tennessee's Department of Environment and Conservation, State Parks Website

TN is now sponsoring a "Smoke School"--no joke, check their website. So we may see a visible smoke test on our diesels in the near future--I think California does this.

Just call your local courthouse if you can't find it on the internet and ask what is required to get your tags---if they says emissions pass, then have fun...

Good thing is, many counties in TN do not require testing.

Also, you don't show the year of your truck---that will tell a lot about what you are facing...

Hi, I am a member of SEMA also. Sema list state by State emission rules, gas vehicles are first than diesel are listed next for each state.

SEMA SAN - SEMA ACTION NETWORK

"TENNESSEE

Annual emissions inspections must be passed prior to registration and registration renewal in the counties of Hamilton, Davidson, Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson and Wilson and in the city of Memphis.

Diesel Vehicles:

Diesel vehicles are treated the same as gasoline powered vehicles for emission inspection purposes.

Exemptions:

1. Pre-1975 MY vehicles

2. Vehicles with a GVWR of more than 10,500 lbs

3. Vehicles with antique registration and plates "

You can join for free and help support the Sema fight that impacts legislation that affects car and truck hobbyists of all kinds.
