I have a '91 non intercooled D250. I want to take the A/C off for a while... It appears that the new belt will run with the opposite side (grooved side) against the pulley.

The dealership only lists the flat pulley.

Is this how it was intended or does someone have the part number for a grooved pulley... Thanks

Hey Doc. Interesting Question. I have been thinking about getting a spare non AC belt in case the AC went out on the road. I recently bought an Idler tensioner Pully for my 93 and it is flat. The dodge parts man said dont carry just the Pully you have to get the tensioner complete from them. This isnt helping you any but someone here will have the answer. Bob

Hey Doc and Bob,

I talked to the guys at Cummins and Dodge both and they say there is only the flat faced tensioner pulley for Dodges. Doesn't seem right to me not to have a grooved non-ac pulley out there but I guess that's the way it is. One guy at Cummins said he had seen grooved tensioner pulleys but they were for an accessory add-on for Fords. Don't know if its adaptable or not. Or worth the effort if you're only going non-ac for a little while.

Hope this helps, Jones

Thanks for the confirmation... doesn't make sense to me. . I guess those belts are tougher than I thought. .

If anyone does have any Dayco, etc catalogs and run across anything . . let us know.

Thanks again,

DocCarter,

I installed a factory A/C system on a 91 W-250 a couple of years ago, and as I recall, the belt tensioner on the non A/C model is the same as the A/C models (no grooves). The only difference is the non A/C model has a slightly shorter serpentine belt that is routed a little differently than the A/C models.

Idler Pulley

Your correct, there is only one idler pulley made and its face is flat.

When you run the short belt (non ac ) the ribs run on the flat face of the idler. It does work - I've got over 200k on mine with no problems. I have to run a top mounted AC compressor with a

v-belt driven off the fan hub.
