Is there some vendor that is selling a belt tensioner as a replacement item?

I seem to recall reading about this somewhere but CRS has set in.

2002 24 valve.

Don't screw around trying to find one in a parts house go straight to Cummins, it'll be the right piece and in stock. I replaced mine some time back and played the back and forth thing between parts houses that "said" they had the right on and never did. Of course except for Cummins.

I'm not sure about the 2nd gen, but Napa sells a heavy duty one for the 1st gen, it's a lot heavier than the original w/steel idler wheel. I tried to fix it with just a new plastic pulley from Napa, same part number as orginal (the old one was worn on an angle) but it didn't help the belt alignment any. The complete heavy duty one fixed the problem.

Find an AutoZone store, or maybe order it online, but get the Dayco. AutoZone sells Dayco and it's the OEM mfg for the tensioner. It was $60. 00 for mine about 2 months ago. Don't try to get a tensioner made by Gates, it will not line up correctly and will make the belt ride off the back of the pulley, I've had the same problem with Gates tensioners on 3 different trucks.

Anyway, the "parts house" Dayco one is the same thing you'll get from Dodge or Cummins except at a lower cost.
