Adam Sprague (My 6 Eats V8's) has one of these, saw him use it at a camp out at HVAC's place this past April. He said he liked it pretty good at that time. Haven't talked with him since then.

Send him an email.

Sportz tent

We had one that we used on my now-traded-in 2500 4x4 5. 9 gasser. We used it in the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado for about 4 seasons, in the longbed regular cab.

Pros: gets you up off the ground, especially if it is wet

rocky ground can't hurt your back unless you fall out of the

truck

fits two people and 3 smaller dogs comfortably

an inflatable mattress makes it as comfortable as a bed

you can hang a lantern or light from the interior fiberglass

rods

good ventilation, interior pockets, stable in high winds and

considerable snow tolerance

Cons: if you have a 4x4 you need a boost to get in or out

Really liked this tent and got our money's worth out of it. I could be pitched anywhere your truck could go, regardless of the availability of a campsite or soft ground. Camped everywhere from 11,000 foot campground in 3 feet of snow to a washed out riverbed in summer.

Cheers

I have the truck tent from Cabelas. It is a free standing tent that has a "tunnel" that connects to the back of my truck. I do have a cap on my truck so we sleep in the truck bed and use the tent for storage and a changing/dressing area. It took some slight mods as I have the 4x4 which is a little tall for the tent as it was designed. After the mods I am very happy with it.

Hey guys, what did you use as a primary souce of heating in them? Particularly you Fritzbo29? I like to late season hunt and it can get pretty chilly. I've been in temps ranging from -5*C to -35*C. I found the catalytic heaters to darn stinky, and propane not much better with moisture to boot.

What has worked for you and how much was the tent anyway?

Thanks, Bush'

tent and heat

BushWakr - When we went camping in the cold we would pretty much sleep in heavy clothes and have the dogs under the covers with us. We hung a coleman propane lantern up at the top with the tops of the zip-up windows open, and this would keep the temperatures inside in the low 40s with outside temperature in the 10s. eek: Before I get yelled at, I know that this is not the safest method, and that unburned propane will sink, and we would have been pretty sick if the lantern leaked, but I have tested the lantern for leaks.

So when it's da** cold, I don't know the best thing. There is a company that makes an electric blanket that plugs into the lighter, and comes with an extension, so you could snake it around back. Of course, this would drain the battery really well. Using this tent is definitely tent camping, and you don't get much insulation from the tent.

Hope this is informative

Nice set up. When I was in scouts it snowed on a winter campout. Nothing like waking up after sleeping in a tent and it is all white when you step outside.

Do these tents fit correctly if you have a toolbox? I would like to purchase one, but if I can't mount it over the toolbox it won't do me much good! I wish I could get rid of the box, but I have nowhere else to store my stuff out of sight!

Haven't used one but they do look interesting! Saw one at Sports Chalet the other night.

From experience, can say that the most secure (and comfortable) method involves canvas tents and either a wood, propane, or multi-fuel stove with proper chimney and spark arrestor.

**NOTICE THIS METHOD CAN CAUSE HERNIA'S

Even more secure method involves taking a second bag and placing your bag inside of it for negative BTU situations, (also cheaper and makes Moma happy as now you have a really kickin twin sleeping bag for non-hunting season)

**NOTICE THIS METHOD ALSO RESULTS IN BOOTS COMFORTABLY WORN ONLY BY PENGUINS AT FIRST LIGHT

LOL,, thanks guys. No wonder I hang out in here, i get lotsa input, and you guys are all nuts to boot. I feel right at home.

Thanks again, particularly for the URL links.
