Me and Ol' Blue will be there. Only one problem, a friend of mine with a PSd is coming. He can't believe these cummins are so strong, said he wishes now that he'd bought one instead of the PSD.
Allow me to ramble:
I am hoping to get Ol' Blue painted next year, but she don't look too bad. I wanted to tell yall, why I love Ol' Blue so much. When I was in the 8th grade (spring of 1989),(I am only 25 now) my dad was wanting a new truck. We had always run 1/2 ton chevys, he had some 3/4 tons in the early 70's. When I saw the first Dodge Cummins, I begged him to buy one. "I don't want no diesel truck, they're too slow", he said. I begged him to take me to test drive one. "I just want to ride in one", I told him. My uncle stopped by the dealer and got me a brochure with a picture of the engine on it. I thought it was awesome. Well One weekend we went lookin at trucks and dad drove a FORD (yuch) with a 302 V8 in it. Well luckily mom said no Fords would come into our driveway. So..... on Monday afternoon as the school bus topped the hill to my house, there sat Ol' Blue in the drive way, as soon as we got off the bus I ran all the way home. My mom was really excited, she said "I like it, it sounds like a little big rig". My dad said "This things is awesome, it will fly". Later that week dad let me drive her up and down our street. Man I thought I was someting. That was the beginning. Later when I was in High school, I used to drive it to school some and on occasion show the ford boys that a 6 cylinder could outrun a 302 ford. Then I went to college driving a 78 nova my folks bought new. Dad talked off and on about gettin a new truck , so I told him to wait till I graduated and I'd buy Ol' Blue, he said he'd never trade her, but he wanted a new one. I think he wishes he'd never bought the new one, it was a low power truck etc. etc. Now it runs good, but with 4. 10 gears it gets about 16 mpg on a good day. On ocassion the other engineers I work with say "Man why don't you buy a new truck, you've got all kindsa money?" I tell them I hope they are asking me the same question in about 15 years.
To me the ultimate truck would be a 68-70 Dodge W200 4 door short bed with late model cummins (about 400 hp) and a 5 or 6 speed and 3. 54 gears. I hope to buy one in a couple of years and build one. I could do it for less than the cost of a new truck and have something really nice. Ol' Blue would probably get a little jealuos, but I think she'd kinda like having a stable mate.
