Hey all,

I've got a noise coming from somewhere that is driving me nuts. It's a clicking of sorts that is coming from either the back of the engine, the transmission, or the transfer case. More noticable when cold, but still there when warm. It gets considerably more pronounced when in gear (I let pickup idle for at least 30 seconds after every start to prime transmission and other oils) and it gets louder w/ accelleration... can't really hear it if you let off from say 1/2 throttle and let it go back to idle, but as soon as you give it some pedal again, it's back.

I can make the sound quiet some by pulling down on my exhaust pipe, in front of the muffler, next to the transmission, but it doesn't go away, just quiets it some. Exhaust isn't rubbing anything, anywhere.

Do the 24 valves have the fuel return "noise" that the 12 valves have, and how is that fixed in the 12 valves? The reason I ask this is because my pickup is becoming slightly harder to start... can't really just bump the starter anymore, and my FP after priming to 15 PSI swings back to 0 almost instantly, like I've got a leak somewhere, but everything is tight that I can check.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Josh

I would start by checking your exhaust system for leaks. They will tick if you have a exhaust leak and as the truck warms up it will be less noticable because the system expands.

well guys, that makes a lot of sense, but there is only one place it could be leaking from, and that would be where the 4" necks down to 3" to mate up to the stock HY-35. I know Rip's welds are good on the rest of the system, and the leak would explain why pulling on the system quiets it...

Will check tomorrow after work (3/8" x 3' extension for ratchet to check the exhaust bolts with) and new KSB1-B is supposed to be here Thurs, so that should be the end of that.

Thanks again

Josh

clicking

Does the clicking increase in tempo when you give it the go pedal... . could be fuel pump??? My engine has a definite clicling noise and upon giving it more juice the clicking increases. jmo

Look for soot around one of your injectors. A loose injector can make a heck of a racket depending on how much it's leaking.

RMH, haven't really checked to see if the frequency increases w/ throttle, just know it gets somewhat louder...

illflem, haven't pulled the valve cover since doing the injector install, but pickup does pull very good, but I'm not sure a lose injector would cause a power problem too...

Will finally check exhaust bolts and will pull valve cover tomorrow after work.

Thanks guys.
