Would over torquing the bolts over the retention straps break the ring on the strap or separate it? It seems pretty far fetched to me that it would do that, but anything is possible.
 
I'm a little lost JHerrlich... . if you noticed in the TSB, you don't put the bolts over the straps, you pound the straps onto the heads of the bolts to hold them from spinning. It looks to me like when they were first put on my truck they put them on too far, and it caused the straps to become to loose, allowing them to fall off.



Don't know if this answers the question or not, but maybe.

Sorry, I didn't read the TSB. I was just trying to remember from what I had on my truck. Same concept though, but even more feasable. Pounding it too far could cause it to split or stretch. Thanks for the correction. I understand now.
