The reason the 9/11 forum was set up was because of the volume of messages on it soon after the event - it was filling up the Other forum and was dominating the forum. Also, there were a number of members that were having difficulty dealing with it after the event that wanted to remove themselves from being exposed to the constant barrage of news all the time (myself included for a while). Based on those two items we felt it was appropriate to create a seperate forum for it so that those that didn't want to read about it didn't have to and could still use the Other forum. It was always meant to be a temporary forum.
The amount of traffic in that forum has now gone down significantly and we're about to make some other changes on the site so now was a good time to close it. The Other forum is there for any posts that you want to make on the ongoing war on terrorism or any other non technical topics as it always has been. With the amount of posting going on regarding it there isn't really a need for a seperate forum for it at this time.
