Stopped by joe kidd Dodge while out on a parts run and seen one of the new trucks on the lot. So I went for a little test drive. It was 36 degrees and I started without waiting for the grid heaters. It fired off nicely considering it has a non gear reduction starter and the battery was still pretty flat, absolutely no smoke, no rattles. The new turbo is kind of interesting sounding, in a good way, will sound awesome with an aftermarket intake.

On the road the engine is a bit quieter than the 06 5. 9 that I recently drove and quite a bit quieter than my 05. The turbo has absolutely no lag but the fueling comes along a little slower. The engine seems to have a bit more tourque but pedal response isn't very linear. All in all I like the way it drives, it rides as well or better than a standard cab 3500 pickup, even without a bed and nearly sucking fumes. I have a Quad cab with the Aiasin ordered for the first of the year. Then we can start figuring out how to fool the computer so we can get rid of the PDF, and EGR.

I will get in cab and outboard video with good sound as soon as my media guy and myself have time to go back.

Any Questions? :D

Hey Chris,

I stopped by there a few days ago and drove that truck too. I just got a DVD camcorder, let me know if you need someone else to tape from a chase truck. Remember you can't have enough angles to capture a nice burnout :-laf

Sorry Coalsmoke, no exhaust brake. Really it didn't have much of anything. Just a plain ole work truck.

Dave, nice to see you've collected a few nice 12valvers. Hopefully the darn salesman wont want to ride along next time. When I drove it it was completely out of fuel and the salesman had one of the lot techs take it up to the UDF and fill it up with regular old 500ppm LSD, I guess well find out sooner than later if you can plug up the PDF.

The EPA says ULSD is now sold in over 90% of the country, so don't assume it was 500ppm. They have switched at the refineries, never mind the labels at the pump.

I'm just going by what "nearly" every pump in a three county area says on the sticker. I know that the particular station that they took the truck to had regular LSD because a friend of mine delivers fuel there. The particular chain of stations is still getting fuel drawn from LSD stocks.

I just filled up today and the fuel looked like it had a green tint to it and did not smell as strong, is this the new fuel?

Was just curious if any of you knew if you can order a cab chassis quad cab right now. My dealer says the only way you can get one right now is regular cab. I am looking for a quad cab, 4x4, to put a 9ft rugby dump bed on. It should be a sweet sit up if i can get one

I'm sure you can, there was a red on on e-bay last week, don't know if it is still there now.

I thought the '07 C&C with the 6. 7 did not have a Particulate filter, just a cat. can someone verify if this is true?

all the 6. 7l engines will have a particulate filter, along with egr, and a kitty, they hae to have them to meet strict emission laws.

I guess the real question is WHY do the pre-Jan 1, 2007 6. 7L engines have these things when they are not required by law.

I recall reading in the TSB about fuel quality and filters that the early 07 6. 7's would not have the particulate trap and could run on the regular low sulfur fuel.

I could see them adding it when not required though... as that would cut down on the necessary validation work. They could concentrate on the 6. 7 w/emissions stuff rather than dividing time between the applications with and without. Sometimes that's more of a savings than the additional equipment costs.

I saw an '07 Dodge RAM 3500 Cab & Chassis at Johnny Watkins Chrysler Center in London, KY. today. Did anyone else besides me notice the muffler... ..... and how easy it would be to straight-pipe the 6. 7L ?

Greg

i looked one over pretty close last night and am willing to be that even if you remove the muffler it wont be very loud with that big DPF. That thing is a monster, looks like it would weigh 200 lbs.

A good friend of mine bought one in Liberty, KY this morning. I took it for a spin this afternoon. (His 05's 48re took a dump w/ under 30k miles from pulling his small horse trailer)

My general impressions were-

Very quiet at idle

Turbo noise is higher pitched and more consistant with engine rpms

Not near the amount of turbo lag

I had never driven a G56 truck before and I can honestly say that this truck felt much more capable than my slushy 48RE does. The engine and the transmission felt perfectly matched IMO.

It cost $118 to fill up that huge tank and when I checked the overhead it said the avg mpg was 15. 4. . Not bad considering the day I drove my 04. 5 off the lot it was reading 11. 9 avg.

I was not interested in the new engine until today as far as buying a new truck. I was very impressed, but much of that may be due to the G56. I guess the pickup will have higher HP ratings, I hope that doesn't bring down mileage numbers. As much as I like this new engine, I will not take a step backwards in the mileage dept.
