Over the weekend I test drove a couple of trucks. The first was a bone stock 2001. Had less than 50K miles and was a real clean truck. I felt like I needed to get out and push to help get it going! Told the sales guy they should check the lift pump cause it sure felt like there was something wrong. Then I drove a new 2005. It also seemed to be a little slow taking off.

I have come to one conclusion after driving these- My 93 runs GREAT! Oo. It is faster than even the new 05's for the first 300' or so. Seems to be a lot of turbo lag in the new ones but once they get up to about 65, then they start pulling hard and then they would pull away from me. I was a little dissapointed with the performance as the torque is around what I have and the HP is supposed to be higher. Question - is the ratings on the new trucks at the engine or at the rear wheels?

At the engine. So you're putting more to the ground than them. HP to the ground is about the same though. Character- no comparison :-laf :D .

In driving my dads 02 and comparing to mine. . Mine has much more below 2K rpm than his does. It is like the computer holds it back at low RPMs, then just launches at 2K. My guess is for emissions reasons ?

get it above 2K and it outdoes mine though... . his can also rev to 3200 rpm with no defueling though... maybe I need that little spring. ;)

You need a spring or something. Mine will still fuel well past 3200. Scares me. Why I installed the 60# valve springs.

I have often wanted to go to a dealer with the look that I will buy... . test drive a new one and upon returning to the dealership, take the smart mouthed salesperson on a test drive in mine. I won't have to explain why I decline the purchase. Dumb I know but don't any of you guys tell me YOU haven't thought of that same senario.

After I told the sales guy I was dissapointed with the performance, He looked at me and asked "just what have you done to your truck?" I just smiled, that was my chance and I guess I blew it!

If the new engines are rated at the motor then that could be why they seemed sluggish to me. But, they still seemed to have lots of turbo lag?

I've been kicking around the idea of a new truck but I am concerned I would void the warrantee! I might as well get one a few years old and then could play with it some. OR - I keep the 93 and play with it a LOT!! :D

GL, send me your Email address again. I tried to send a couple of things to you but they came back as not deliverable.

I'm still getting used to driving my new '05. It's a totally different animal from the '93 (transmission differences aside).

The electronic injection and emissions control account for the somewhat slow throttle response. It definitely isn't turbo lag with the tiny little turbine housing on these things :-laf (likely for emissions reasons too). The '93 is way more agressive to drive... . put foot to floor, instant full fuel... black smoke... spoooool, 35psi in about 1 second, tires spinning in 2nd gear Oo. The PDR and DTT goodies help out just a bit :-laf
