I'm still stock too as far as engine mods, although I have gauges.
However, I notice that most, if not all of you 'stockers' are 2001's! Your trucks are awesome and really don't need to be modified before the warranty expires. But try driving my dog Y2K!! I can't even break the tires loose on gravel or even wet pavement!! My '96 gasser 318ci 5 speed RAM towing my 19 foot heavy old Layton Travel Trailer, out pulled my Y2K 3500 Diesel towing the same trailer up the Santa Cruz mountains by at least 20 minutes.
So, sooner or later, but before my warranty expires, I am going to 'BOMB' this sucker and, if it blows up, so be it. I'll park it at the dealership if they don't cover it under warranty and pay storage until I go Bankrupt!! #ad

I plan to 'BOMB' only after my 100k mile warranty expires ;)Fact:"The First Fords' had 'DODGE' Engines-The Last Fords' NEED THEM!"

My truck is "Reasonably" stock. I added a 30 gallon Transfer flow, because the fuel dealers are really ripping us off for disel. I have ordered guages. It just makes sense to know what is going on. I worked with Westach. They are custom designing the EGT for me. The trans temp and EGT will be alarmed.

So far as the engine, I am totally stock. It moves my 31. 5' 5er anywhere I want to go. Could not be a better road vehicle. Just went from NJ to VA Beach and back, empty unfortunately. Rides like a platform. Was it windy, coulden't tell.

Love this truck. Frequently turn the radio off. The Cummins sounds better.

PINE SAP!

Mine is stock except, brush guard, running boards, mud flaps, BD brake, 60 Aero Tank.

I did the same thing as you. 3/4 ton with a 9'10" Lance slide in. 2400lbs over the 8800GVW!!! Went with this for several years and did not care for being over weight. Now have 500 miles on a 2001 SLT Dually which will bring me right up to the nats eyebrow of the 11000GVW.

What is the definition of stock? Any thing that does not modify the engine, or drive train?

I have been a Dodge man for years. My first was a 1954 ½ ton and I still have my 1979 D100. The body styling, payload, towing capacity and the Cummins diesel makes this the best truck I ever owned. AS IS!!! The anticipation of hearing the Cummins roar gives me a woody everytime I climb in the cab #ad
I guess that would be called Premature Cummins #ad

I am, and will probably remain stock for a while. However, I think BOMBing is inevitable. I have always made modifications to my trucks. Mostly out of necessity. A good example is the 79. It had that terrible Carter carb. After rebuilding it 3 times, off it went and replaced with an Edelbrock manifold with a Holley four-pumper.

I have seen some good products that I will incorporate in my truck. Items that really do not classify as BOMBing. Horton Fan, MagTech Cover and Pan and Gauges for obvious reasons already mentioned.

Then some small Bombing. My wish list is; Trans upgrade, 4” Exhaust and Brake, Injectors, PE EZ Box… Please somebody stop me. It can be contagious #ad

To date my only Cummins problem was a leaking (very small) Thermostat Housing. Not counting the removal of that D*** oil filter. I use schedule B, no synthetics for me, 10K miles, and 17 MPG without cargo or trailer.

One last thing. For signatures check out the Signature Solution? post by Bryan. It makes signature posting a snap. ------------------

yea... I suppose if were gonna define stocker's it ought to only exclude body or cab related products. Anything tied to any running gear would violate the engineering of the truck... regarding its intended design!

My quest is to find out how many problems are related to BOMB'ing if any... no I don't work for DC. If we find in the next few years that owners dedicated to this test (if there are any) are not having problems, then new potential BOMB'ers might want to consider that as potential data. If we start having problems too, then we'll BOMB the crap out of ours, raise cain and figure it just doesn't matter #ad
#ad

Guages would not constitute bombing and could also help collect specific data.

Gee I feel like a nerd! #ad

RobbyRam - Hey man, if your truck runs as poorly as you say it does, do yourself a favor and take it to the dealership NOW, and start raising cain. Get the thing fixed BEFORE it runs out of warranty.

Then after it does run out of warranty, bomb the crap out of it, and you'll have a better running truck post-bombing than you would've had post-bombing if you'd never had DC straighten' it out.

What's the purpose of a warranty if you don't use it? #ad
You paid for your warranty in the cost of the truck. And it sounds like, in your case, you have plenty of reason to complain, and take advantage of the warranty.

That's my $0. 02 worth.

WELCOME... . i'm with you... !! i plan on keeping my truck stock,i have plenty of power, and the 6sp. is a ball to drive!! i do plan on adding a rambrake when time&money permits. i commute 70-75 miles a day to and from work in D. C. i,m averaging 17. 8-18mpg on the commute. (running about 62mph)i just love this truck!!!... cya around... tom

I bought my 2001 based on comparisons with Chevy 3/4 tons, Ford 3/4 tons and Toyota Tundra. I decided to buy DC because as equipped it was very comparable in price (inc the Cummins) plus or minus $1-2k. That is not enough money to worry about on a $31k truck over a 6 year fianance period, so I decided to go for the dependability and economy of diesel. I had no knowledge of this board and I thought a BOMB was a military term until this fall. Since August, I have gone back and forth (yo-yo) based on my reading post on this BBS.

As of right now I have decided to stay totally stock, NO POWER ADD-ON's at all. I am running about 19. 7-21. 4 mpg with appx 8000 mi. I have decided to not use any fuel additives or synthetic oils for the engine. I am spliting the difference between schedule A and B maintenance periods. I am very satisfied with the tire size, power and drive train configuration as is.

I am not having any problems with this truck at all (I LOVE THIS TRUCK), but I don't tow much. I have a small 20' camper (may trade for a 10+' slide-in) and 18' boat. I drive the speed limit + 5mph, I don't accellerate quickly, I use it as a normal 3/4 ton country hauler.

It will be interesting to see if my truck develops some of the problems commonly addressed on this board... in the next 492,000 miles? I will keep you all informed.

QUESTION: Are there any other BORING stock'ers (like me) out there that want to see how it goes and compare notes at this time?

When I bought my 95 new, I asked the dealer what I could do to the exhaust and not hurt my warranty. The service manager told me, "anything you want, just dont mess with the cat". Well, the new trucks dont have cats, so I would strongly advise killing your muffler! Cooler temps, better mileage and performance... for cheap, and no penalty!

I saw the straight pipe kit in Geno's not sure if that would be a BOMB move or not? I know on my old Harley (1980) FXEF the engine had a real noticable drop in mid range pick-up when I took the 2n1 muffler off and went to straight pipes... ? I suppose the back pressure played some effect in there somewhere.

Could this be said for the Cummins?

Yes. I would say that is BOMBing #ad

It only took 9 days (your post was 11-29-00) and your thinking

Technically speaking, of course, #ad
I think removing your muffler is a bomb. That does have something to do with the drivetrain, because it does alter the performance of the engine somewhat.

Us nerds are going to keep our mufflers on. #ad

Hey Pine Sap:
I have a 96 3500 that is stock as for as the engine is concerned, but have added a over-drive and an exgaust brake. The Geneo's MEK has been put on but with the muffler gone I don't know what I've accomplished except soother flow. After 4 years time has come for 370 M injectors and fuel plate. [#11] Power is now needed for towing with no decline is speed on mountian roads. I am going for dependable power without crazy speed.
Good luck.

Oh come on now... remember the Repubs are the minority IF we will let the Dems count the peoples votes 4 or 5 more times (HEHEHEHE)

Seriously though... I believe there are more stocker's out there. We have about 6 or 7 DC's running around these part of the sticks (lots of nice RAM gasser's though) and I would venture to say none of them DC owners would know what the word BOMB means.

You can add two more stockers to the list. My Brothers and my Dads (Jack in Alaska) are both stock. Although I think Dad my be leaning toward bombing for a bit more power. Mine is not stock as you can see in my signature, the only reason I bombed is that I can. I have always wanted to have a fast truck, and a fast Diesel truck is twice the fun. I have the utmost respect for stockers like you guys.
