I got 13 of 13 also. I never had more than a high school education, graduated 33 years ago, but I read a lot and watch shows on Discovery channel and such. You guys all gave away the nitrogen answer, TJJ should edit his 1st post and tell everyone to take the test before reading on. ;) I would have figured it out pretty quick though.

I got 12, missed nitrogen, heard too many times, "Hydrogen is the most common gas on earth". Left school 73 years ago at 14 years of age, normal school leaving age in Europe at that time. Educated in the UK.

I also got 13/13. The stats at the end are eye-opening; especially that only 31% of college* grads knew (or guessed?) that Nitrogen made up most (about 3/4) of the Earth's atmosphere. No wonder tire places can sell it so easily. :) And not to pick on those with a fancy degree to frame and hang on the wall, but less than 60% knew electrons were smaller than atoms and lasers focus LIGHT? I'll tell ya, if I had paid for their education, I'd be looking into getting a refund. That's pathetic! What scares me most is that this a demographic slice of what enters a voting booth.

(*LOL, my spell check let me know I spelled "college" wrong. (I barely made it through HS. :) )

Regardless of the subject or question, if you know the answer of course its not hard. However one did have an opportunity guess.

13 of 13...

Seems that all of the TDR members who posted are well above average. Simple test, but sadly most of us scored better than 93% of the public and the same as 7% (at time of post).

Speaking Of Knowledge...

Lets just try a little math trick.

This is clever, not hard, just try it.

This really works and will only take you about ten seconds!!!

Amazing it really works this is my all-time favorite movie.

I am very good at math, so I did it in my head, then on paper, and finally on a calculator just to confirm my numerical capabilities.

Each time I got the same answer, and sure enough it IS my very favorite movie EVER!

DO NOT cheat. DO YOUR math, THEN compare the results to the list of movies at the bottom

You will be AMAZED at how scary true and accurate this test is

1. Pick a number from 1-9.

2. Multiply that number by 3.

3. Add 3.

4. Multiply by 3 again.

5. Your total will be a two digit number. Add the first and second digits together to find your favorite movie (of all time) in the list of 17 movies below:

Movie List:

1. Gone With the Wind

2. E. T.

3. Blazing Saddles

4. Star Wars

5. Forrest Gump

6. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

7. Jaws

8. Grease

9. The Obama Farewell Speech

10. Casablanca

11. Jurassic Park

12. Shrek

13. Pirates of the Caribbean

14. Titanic

15. Raiders of the Lost Ark

16. Home Alone

17. Mrs. Doubtfire

Now, isn't that something?

Can be easily designed:

n = 1, 2, …, 9

1. Pick a number from 1-9.

n

2. Multiply that number by 3.

3n

3. Add 3.

3n + 3 = 3(n + 1)

4. Multiply by 3 again.

3[ 3(n + 1) ] = 9(n + 1)

n 9(n + 1) Sum of digits

1 18 9

2 27 9

3 36 9

4 45 9

5 54 9

6 63 9

7 72 9

8 81 9

9 90 9

Regardless, that is one fine movie. Can't wait to see it myself.

Pretty crazy!

My sons would say, "Weird Dad". The trick is, not to read it too closely, just rapidly scan the lines, and read as fast as you can, once you get going it becomes very easy, everything falls into place, maybe faster than speed reading, however I have never tried speed reading so am unable to judge.

I used to receive emails like that from a soldier in the same Infantry regiment and Company I also served in during WW2, sadly he passed away a few months ago. I believe they were to test for Altimer (sp?) age related, or other disorders. I don't know who originated the tests. One test was where say 12 or so lines of 9s are displayed, and the test was see how long one took to find a 6 in the group without using any aid, say courser or pointer, another was the same layout with Os and a C planted in the group, also the same for other figures or numbers. I could spot them in a number of seconds, I put it down for having to read prints and drawings in steel fabricating and like industries for most of my working life, plus machine drawing at 13 years of age in a technical school in the UK.
