Sounds like a new "Ignore this post" thread... . how long will it last.

for the record. . I've accidently replied. I meant to hit the back button. :D

I can tell you that I failed. I was checking on what type of permissions we have on the new servers... and well... . I found out we can't delete our own post.

It would be nice, if we posted in the wrong forum or something to be able to delete it and re-create it in the right place. I guess it a big Ohhhh well...

Explanation

We disabled users ability to delete thread starters for a simple reason. On occasion, individuals would make a post intending for it to go in one direction (perhaps bashing another user, a vendor, a product, etc. ). Then if the post didn't go in that direction, the thread starter would delete his/her post which caused the entire discussion to be deleted. Then we (the moderators) got accused of censorship when we had nothing to do with it at all.

So we reset our settings to disallow any thread starter to delete that post.

Other than the occassional thread that is posted in the wrong forum and needs to be moved, this hasn't created much of a problem. And we're always happy to move any thread at the request of the original poster.

The only time you cannot delete your own post is when it is a thread starter.

Hope this helps clear this up.

I might be mistaken:rolleyes: , but I thought that before the changes you could delete a post as the thread starter as long as there were no replies.

Would this be possible?

It would allow us to correct our own improperly posted threads.

Good question, Shovelhead. We did not change this setting during the conversion, so I am relatively certain that you could not delete any thread starter - even on the old server.

During the conversion, we upgraded our copy of VBulletin, and each day we are finding new features that will help offer better solutions to users on the boards. Right now, however, I cannot see any option to allow users to delete thread starters without replies. I will continue to research, and if I can find that option is available, I'm open to that change. No problem.

If you would like I can remove this thread. Otherwise it can die a slow and painfull death. Just let me know K_Arts if you really want it removed.

Oo.

I hate tests

Will it be multible choise? Fill in the Blank? Or essay form?

Had a guy at work last week fail his test. guess I won't be seeing him anymore.

I think K_Arts failed this test miserably. Not only did this thread get moved, rather than being deleted, but his hopes for deletion didn't materialize after it got moved either. Anyway, I think we all learned something with this thread. It sure is easier to learn when you get to watch someone fail the test :)
