Wisconsin to California - Recommendtions?

Well..... it is vacation time and I am going to Texas. Our mission is to review potential retirement spots for the future. This will be my second and final retirement. In a couple of years it is my time at 62 and then it's over. Texas is very appealing because of the people, the price of housing, the settings and the fact that there is no income tax.

We will be leaving Albuquerque on Saturday, the 23rd, and heading to Kerrville to spend a few days. Then we will investigate the Corpus Christi area south and north to Rockport. We were raised in Connecticut on the shore and we are partial to the ocean. Then we are heading north on, I think, 59 to Houston to visit my nephew.

After that, we are heading to Missouri to see some grand kids and then back to New Mexico via Colorado. My wife promised me that we could do a little fly fishing at least once during this trip.

So, you Texans, who are fellow TDR members, if you see a Forest Green 3500 with New Mexico plates towing a 32 ft. King of the Road 5er, it's me. Consider a wave of hello.

Adios Amigos..... semper fi. :D

When you get to houston give me a holler. I am about 40 minutes south of there. If you decide to come see Galveston I am about 10 minutes from the freeway. Let us know when you come through here. There is even an rv park on the freeway between galveston and houston.

Having lived in Texas since 1956 and been to both Corpus and Galveston, I highly recommend you visit the Galveston bay area which includes the city of Galveston and nearby towns that are on the water. Galveston is our favorite place to go visit in Texas.

Galveston has a totally different atmosphere than Corpus. It was the only other port of entry for immigrants besides New York. It has lots of old historic houses and good fishing. You can buy a house or condo quite reasonable priced.

It's vacation time and we're doing the same thing: going to Texas to check out the retirement scene. We're going in August. I'm a native Texan and we are going to be checking out the Hill Country just north of San Antonio. The Coast is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there; Hurricanes! You can get a Texas State travel guide @ www.dot.state.tex.us and www.traveltex.com and www. texashighways.com

When you're passing thorough Texas, and especially when you're up north in the Hill Country, let me know. I live about 25 miles north of San Antonio, in the Hill Country. Love to hook up with you guys, and show you a little around here. And if you're looking for a nice neighborhood, with a pond stocked with some good bass, I know just the place... Email me directly if you want my phone number.
