Texting While Driving

I took my 16 year old nephew along with me to the historical society to spend the day blacksmithing with me. He had to keep stopping as he was sending and reciveing texts. There isn't anything important. They are doing it becasue it is available to them.

Blacksmithing involves you to strike while the iron is hot. It don't wait for anyone to read a text. That was a long day of heating iron and little forging.

Basically a really nice day wasted over that phone.

What is really said is to watch couples or groups of friends in restaurants not talking but with their eyes on each of their phones sending and recieving texts and looking at facebook, etc... . in total silence.

I'll admit, it is a pet peeve of mine, but I hate to see people on that facebook thing in public. My family and I were on a bus in Florida a couple weeks ago on our way back to our hotel from Disneyworld. There was a couple with two little girls sitting next to my daughter. Both parents were on facebook the entire time the bus was moving. At one point, the smallest child, probably 3 or so, fell off the seat and landed flat on the floor of the bus while we were going around a corner. The little girl started crying and the parents completely ignored her. Didn't even put the phones down long enough to check and see if she was OK. My daughter had to help her get back up on the seat. My wife gave me that "Don't you dare make a scene" lecture, so I kept my mouth closed. But I so wanted to give them a piece of my mind.

Scott condolences to your wife and you. Texting while driving is an epidemic from my view and it won't get better very fast.

OK- Just last night it went to a new low in my neck of the woods... The guy had a big tablet like a iPad on his steering wheel- while driving. First thing I thought, what would happen to his face if the airbag went off? Then I realized I was distracted looking at HIM.
