Here is the short version:

I did all the possible upgrades at DD.
I hurt my transmission at May Madness.
DD fixed my transmission.

Thanks

Long Version:

I knew at some point and time BOMBing was going to happen. I had the transmission upgraded here locally, I THOUGHT, NOT, WRONG, WASTE OF MONEY. So, when I went to May Madness and the Boys at DD had an opening for them to install all the goodies. When I was on my way to their shop I said to myself that if this place looked scary at all I was going to save my money. Well, I spent a lot of money there. This shop is TOTALLY Professional and knowledgable.

A lot of people spoke highly of DD, NOW I DO.
In five hours the truck was fast. Well the trick transmission that I had done here in California was going south quick, so I parked it at DD and rented a car and still had fun.

Keith did a great job of keeping me in touch with photos, emails and phone calls. I had them do the DTT VB and TC and The New Smart Controller which is very trick and a must have and a complete rebuild. The transmission was custom built for my needs and towing weights.

Thanks

The reason I posted this is because the Board can get you going in toooooo many directions for your BOMBing thoughts, I know I was.

DD and DTT is the ony way to go. PERIOD

Please tell us more about the Ultimate power module. Is it a rebadged Edge Comp, or DD's own design? How many levels, etc. ? Glad to hear you had such a great experience.

It is made by EZ.

DD made the request and they made it to their specifications.

There is 26 different adjustments.

By selecting levels 1 through 5 using the up and down arrows on the keypad, horsepower increases from 50 to 150+ can be reached. Within each of the five power levels, there is a sub-level that is adjustable for smoke/response control. Smoke control level one is the least aggressive, which will produce the least amount of smoke and will bring the additional fueling in the least aggressively. Level five will bring the fueling in quickest, and provide the quickest power delivery for each level.

So, when you are happy with a certain level and sub-level it will store it in Memory for you.

Very easy to adjust if you wish to change YOUR personal level.

Truly a great product and the adjustability is your choice not someone elses.

Hope this helps.

I met Gary today when I ran into him at my dealer in Escondido. Maybe he was there just showing off!?! His truck caught my eye and he was more than accomodating. Under the hood the DD stuff seemed very stealthy to me. Very clean. In the cab all his guages and boxes are right where they should be as well. Very nice. One thing I got a BIG kick out of was as I was taking in his cab all I noticed a Valentine One radar detector! You know you have a fast and strong truck when the money for a Valentine One does you good! What a truck! And nice meeting you.

Gary, glad you're up and running again. When I last talked to you, you were pretty bummed. I'm glad you got fixed up. I would hold onto your first born, tho, as I'm sure DD didn't exactly do all that stuff for no dinero!! #ad

So HOW is it different than a COMP? The functionality is the same. Are the fueling/timing curves different? Does it matter? I'm looking at one or the other very soon.

Wade - for an exact answer you sould probably call DD, but I can tell you that I belive the DD box has just a bit less timing advance than the edge box. This was to compensate for the big injectors that DD almost always installs. .

As far a power, I belive the Edge box will make about 10 hp more then the DD box.

comp vs. ddufm

[edit] the DD site is back up.

I'm planning on DD3's, but the box will be first. You can't tell squat by the graphs online because the trucks AND calibrations are different.

Anyone have an opinion on the PE Comp vs. DD's version with DD3's. (Turbo, exhaust, and clutch upgrades as necessary)

And the application is for making smoke, and keeping PSD's and Mustangs from passing. No standing-start drag racing or sled pulling or heavy hauling.

Yeah, that's what we need a virtual dyno. Plug in the mods and get the #'s, no mixing no measuring no mess.

DD claims if you let them install the injectors and box they can deliver more HP than they claim. This makes me wonder if they have some sort of capability to tweak or fine-tune the box to a specific application?

I don't know how prices compare between DD's and Edge's version but I would lean toward the DD UFM if I was running DD injectors.

Vaughn

From what I've read, the PE comp will deliver 8 to 10 more HP than a DD UFM which is a re-badged PE Comp made to DD's specification.

I believe Lawrence Bolton of DD knows his stuff.

Yes, the timing advance is different and factors in for larger injectors.

I don't think it would matter much what you buy unless you're going to be installing big injectors such as DD3's or bigger.

I've got a PE Drag Comp and I'm getting my hands on a DD UFM (non drag version) to test the drivability with DD2's.

Charles

One more thing... . Does anyone know if DD is doing some custom programming on the DD UFM boxes when you have them installed at their shop? This would account for additional power and an incentive for them to do the install.

Gary,

Are you sure you did not get the DD UFM with the "drag" option?

You're putting out lots of power for your setup and we're very curious.

Thanks,

Charles

I have run both the Edge Comp Drag and the DD ultimate Drag. There is no difference... ... I talked this over with Arron at edge and he said that he could not say, But that he wrote the program (singular) not two programs. Hope this helps. Plus, I am running the DD Max Boost Turbo and had it modified by Piers. Best of both worlds. With the DDII injectors, I can still hit 1400* but I have to push her real hard... not just a quick blast like before. I thing I have to be up around 100+ mph to see those temps. Go for the Drag mod on the boxes, But you will have to chang the turbo. I am almsot ready for twins, this bug gets real bad after you hit the wall before 500 hp... ... ... ... ... ... ... .

thanks DD again...

Nothing against PE at all, but I talked to both companies today. PE says there is no difference. DD says there most certainly is. He (Keith) said that the timing isn't advanced as much and there is no defueling after 2700 on level five. And that they spent months developing the slight differences.

What brought this whole thing up was the DDUFM that was listed for sale yesterday in the classifieds (sold already:{ ). I hadn't really researched the DD product. The good news is that Keith hooked me up with another satisfied customer-who sold me his used UFM custom box. :D (He has an 02 that needs a different setup. )

Ain't life just grand! In our small world of performance diesel that is. First DD and PE have time to answer my silly questions right when I call 'em. Second DD helps move a used product which helps two customers at once, yet nets them only one sale-indirectly. And PE and DD working together to help us folks make clouds of smoke. Oo.

Their is a difference!

I had the UPM in my ETH with BD IV's and then I switched to a COMP. The COMP WILL smoke a heck of a lot more than the UPM. As far as the HP increase, I couldn't really tell you. My $0. 02.

All I know for sure that the seat of the pants meter is the same on either box. Just turn it on 5x5 and hold on. If there is much of a difference you might be able to find it on a dyno.

What? no smoke???

Or is that just a bit less smoke? MUST HAVE SMOKE. Of course less smoke will make it more of a stealth ride. I'm always checking out the smoke levels of other CTD's and suspect BOMBing when I see any.

I will be putting her on the dyno. And next BOMB is DD3's--right after the clutch. That artta help the smoke factor.

And this particular box is supposed to be an extra special custom job. Hope my ETC likes it. We'll see when I hit the dyno.

I don't count on there being a big HP difference. I expect the differences will be when/how the power comes on--and smoke levels.

And no 5x5 until the SBC goes in. :{
