I am sure you (Piers) are tired of saying the same old thing over and over. For you Govn Spring pros this will be old news but for the few and new that end up a idle bounce/rebound after installing GSK ... the springs are definetly to tight. Not just one click tight but probably 2 or three clicks.

I have had a bounce for a couple years now and each winter when temps go zero, it really sucks. Even with idle up around 900 the bounce is so severe with a cold engine that it dies on each shift (5speed).

I got so desperate that I put the stock springs back in. Kind of neat to drive with pretty good fueling but a very short RPM range. EGTs sure fell back in check again.

Talked to several in the know but just did not like the response (click tighter, click looser... ) I had tried all of that years back. Final it was suggested I ask Piers directly and he quickly responded the springs are to tight. He said to start at . 040 stud protrusion. He mention you do not want the springs to control the idle or even be close. You want to control with the idle adjustment.

Pulled the stock springs... GSKs back in (really good at this now), set at . 040 which is very very loose and on restart and an adjust up of the idle to the 900 I like to run the idle is smooth as glass. Sometimes even the simple fixes are most rewarding.

I hope this helps someone else out so you don't put up with it as long as I did.

What about run-a-way idle?

I have Geno's adjustable idle stick, and when I start my truck in the morning I have to sit out there with it for a couple of minutes to get it to stay where I want it.

Ex. If I start it and set it at only 1K RPMs within 15 seconds it will just too 1500-1700 or darn near 2K RPMs if I initially set it at anything more than 1000RPM's.

Even so if get past the initial run off of RPM's, by the time I go back in the house and come back out a few minutes later to leave it's jumped up in idle again. #@$%!

Springs too tight? It idle around 750-800 when warm, but 500-600 when cold. I'm guessing my springs may be a little tight, but they were already installed when I purchased the truck.

Just another observation....

My truck from new was always an instant starter. Unless the temps were below -10 or so, it started instantly. This has been missing for quite awhile even though I always keep my idle RPMs pretty high (900). I start very quick when warm but coler temps required a second or two. With the loose GSKs and more control given to the idle screw then engine again starts instantly. My idle speed is exactly the same now as before.

I always thought it was idle speed that contolled how fast the engine started but now it seems the relation between the GSK tension and idle speed play a role.

I put my GSK kit in today and I guess I got lucky. Both springs were at about . 035. It took one click and another half turn and that was it. There was no change in the idle speed when I was finished. No problems during the test drive ethier. I went in through the side of the pump and would recommend this for anyone installing the kit. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be and there is no chance of dropping something into the pump. The other thing I would recommend is try to measure at the same spot and at the same angle, otherwise you will get several different measurments.

how much is that info worth? bring it to the dodge dealer tell them your problem and let them try to fix it and then you find out what its worth. dont forget how valuble our vendors are! give them your business sometimes saving 5$ on ebay will kill our best asset... good vendors.

Piers is the Best:

My first experience with Piers was recently when I bought an AFE Stage I with Pro Guard 7 filter from Piers. They shipped the wrong filter (the higher flow blue filter) by mistake. They shipped me the correct Pro Guard 7 filter and let me keep the first filter for free :D . I didn't ask for it or complain, but they took care of me. They go out of their way to provide customer satisfaction.

They treat they customers well and are very helpful and knowledgeable.

Piers will get all my business.
