I need more PowerOo. Wait ,,, Acutally I WANT more power.

Need/want/need/want,,,, Well its actually all the same.

My 95 with auto trans should have the 160hp pump, the only thing I have done is #6 plate all the way forward and 3k springs.

I get a nice cloud of smoke when I lay into it and when the turbo pumps up to 35lbs - - - HOLD ON. . :) . Man I love it. gotta have it. want more. Im addicted.

Here are my concerns;

1. I don't really want much more smoke

2. I don't really want it to be any louder,, actually im trying to make it a bit more quite if possible using some insulation in the cab.

3. I have an automatic transmission. Just rebuilt with a heavy duty torque converter and a shift kit with a few other high performance parts and don't want to destroy it.

4. MONEY. . I don't have much left to spend on it since I just sank 4k restoring everything ie. "ball joints, rotors, calipars, bearings, transmission, paint, valve job, K&N filter, tires, alignment etc. "

Any suggestions of what I can do next?

I am planning on having the timing advanced to 15. 5 and possibly gutting the cat if it won't make it much louder.

Thanks, John Oliverio

P-38...

LOSE THE CAT. These suckers can plug up and it ain't cool. I still haven't figured out why they are even on there.

You might think about either going to a straight pipe or a different exhaust system. If you don't want a straight pipe (by far the cheapest method) the next best thing in my opinion would be Rip's exhaust system. Full 4" mandrel bent, and you can get it with a free-flowing muffler if you want. Do a search for it, a lot of guys have 'em and love 'em. Personally, I'm saving for a set of stacks. Oo.

I have an AFC spring kit. It should help your smoke issue a little and increases pre-boost fueling. Helluva lot better than just cranking the starwheel and only about $35.

If you're going to do the timing my advice would be to find a good shop with a impulse or flash kind of timing box. If you're going to do it yourself, good luck and make sure you have the right tools. I just had Scheid Diesel set mine, and it ran right at $100. But I know it's done right. They told me that my timing was at 21* before:--) You talk about smoke...

Finally, I hope you got a set of guages in there with a #6. If not, better do that before ANYTHING else. Hope all this rambling helps.

I like my 370 injectors. They were on sale a Piers last I heard. I dindn't need DVs with them but some people end up needing them as well. Don't forget about a GSK kit. I like my 3K version. Some people say that it the best mod on an automatic like yours.

I already have Guages and the 3k springs. Was probably wondering more about the injectors and/or delivery valves?

Remember I have a 95 automatic with the little 160hp pump.

any suggestions

Pop the pump off and send it to Piers and let him work his magic. Much cheaper than buying a 215 HP pump. When it is returned you can pop in a set of 370's (injectors) and you will be rocking.

Unless the transmission was built by someone who know Diesels and Dodge trannies, I wouldn't trust them. I live in Houston (3 million population) and have talked to countless transmission shops and none, I repeat NONE of them have been even remotely knowledgeable. From reading on the TDR, I know just as much as 95% of them about what needs to be donr to our trans. to make it last. If you continue to upgrade it's just a matter of time before it all goes BOOM!!!!!.

Good luck whatever you do... ... :D :D

The problem with just dumping in injectors or delivery valves, is more smoke. And you state one of you concerns is no more smoke. You dont mention EGT concerns, but given your existing air flow mods I would consider that too.

Also money is an object. Most the affordable air flow mods help some, but wont offset lots of fuel ( power ) mods as far as smoke and EGT's are concerned. IMO of course. Now the serious airflow mods like cams, heads and turbos cost $$$.

In the end I didnt answer your question at all. Only to point out that you have a set of goals in mind, and you need to evaluate all the options against your set of goals and make sure they meet your needs before you just throw money at it.

If injectors and delivery valves will make more smoke then would a larger turbo or exhaust help reduce smoke.

My EGT's are not a huge concern since I live in FL (flat) and I don't use the truck to pull heavy loads (2k boat). With the current setup I was only able to get the EGT guage to the top of the yellow but not in the red - pulling my boat over the Skyway Bridge going 78mph, I just wanted to see what would happen.

Before any mods I could barely get it to 60 crossing the bridge.

Thanks,

John

I recomend:

215 injectors (should be able to find some used)

181 delivery valves (ditto on the used)

#5 TST plate (also used)

I ran this combo for quite a while, it gives real good performance and with the star wheel dialed out of the "smoke" range, it isn't obnoxious.

I just installed 370's and the pump needs work to get everything working together correctly.

You should be able to do the above mods for a reasonable cost.

Be careful on used plates, there are a lot of counterfeits out there. Genuine TST (which others also sell) are 1 piece, no screws or rivets.
