MEMORIAL DAY PICS

California Electric problems simplified.

Can somebody remind me who was in office when CA deregulation was signed? If I remember correctly it was Pete Wilson - a REPUBLICAN.

As much as I dislike most of Gray Davis' politcal beliefs I really don't think you can blame him for this. Yes, CA should have pushed/allowed the utilities to build more power plants.

However, you all with your self righteous, moral high ground need to pull your heads out and realize that the way california goes is the way the country goes - good, bad or indifferent. Also, how bout pointing your moral indignation at the generators & NG suppliers that are gouging CA - even if 'we' set up the rules that allow them to do it.

Nothing personal, but if we dont stay self-sufficient in our basic needs, this is going to continue, and no political whining, or temp band-aid fix is going to solve it.

Self sufficient in basic needs? Then how the heck does Nevada feed any of it's residents? I don't recall seeing too many farms while driving thru Nevada on 80, 50 or 15.

I'm not saying that CA can blame anybody else - hell, we set up the rules (in cahoots with the utilities that are now screaming foul). Yes, we need to fix the 'free market'. Yes, we need to supply more of our enery from with in our borders. CA economy booms but we don't make supply keep up with demand - maybe we should require any new residents to bring their own environmentally friendly power w/them #ad
How many of the other 49 states are 100% electricity self sufficient thru out the year? I don't know but I doubt it's all of them. CA, as a whole, has some of the mildest weather year around & thus our consumption per capita is one of the lowest.

I'm torn between 'blaming' the suppliers for taking advantage of market & blaming our elected officials, both republican & democrat, for setting up the flawed market. I believe that the AG, Lockyer, will find/has found evidence of market manipulation and that's why the suppliers are willing to 'refund' over charges & coming to CA to pitch their plans that require the investigations be stopped. Sure makes them look guilty, doesn't it?

I say bore holes in the ground off the pristine CA coast to provide NG supply for entire nation - oops, I meant CA since we need to be self sufficient. If we are gonna have to look at those rigs then we should be the ones getting the resource #ad
