I'm new to the whole diesel thing and just got a 97 4x4. Any way I read on here quit a bit and decided to get the #10 plate and the 3k gsk. I also got 4" straight pipe and new air cleaner stuff. Oh and a boost and pyrometer.

I just got done putting the plate and spring kit in (which was a pain when i had to roll the engine and i have a steep drive way and the truck wont fit all the way in the garage). The plate is in the stock position now. Any way just went out and drove it, WOW! lot more fun now. I still need to put the exahaust and pyrometer in. I'll do it tommrow.

My question is. What is the best way to upgrade the turbo? Should I get the larger housing or wait till I can afford a better turbo all around. I dont have money for a turbo now. The problem is, is I tow a 7000# trailer. And I live in the high desert so hills everwhere and long. Am I going to be able to get up them now with out heating up too much?

I also have the use of a machine shop and i do know how to use it. Has any one ever bored out the stock turbo?

the exhaust housing swap is like a band aid you will still get hot it will just take a little longer. i would get a better turbo. if money is real tight you could always hybred your turbo. a friend of mine did that to his turbo he likes it and said it lowered his egts.
